Here now and no towel animals!

The girls I saw making them were on the clock. It was down time, slow afternoon for beignet making but they were on duty.

To those of you who feel entitled to towel animals I think it would be good for you to know, staff make them on their time. Thats right they don't have a special crew that makes them. So either they stay after work and make them without pay or they take the supplies home and make them in there free time. They usually make them because they know it cheers the little ones up and helps increase tips. I've spoken to multi Mousekeepers at various resorts and just because they don't all speak english doesn't mean they won't talk to. If you try or if you also happen to speak whatever language they do speak and actually do appreciate being acknowledged. Once I learned this it made towel animals all that more special and actually made me leave an even bigger tip. I think its a great bit of pixie dust but something I will never expect or get mad about if I don't receive. Just something to think about. Know one owes you a towel animal. If its super important to you as a surprise for the kiddies maybe make one yourself at home and hide it in your luggage to put out. Pixie dust is also the magic and spirit you bring with you to Disney. Its not
something you pay for.

I am not sure where you heard this but it is not accurate. According to Housekeeping, no one goes home and makes these towel animals on there own time. (unless they want to practice making them) They actually laughed at this comment. They are made by housekeeping, while at work. They also explained that sometimes the housekeeper for your room may not know how to make the animals. The representative from housekeeping also offered that it is no big deal to simply ask for some towel animals, if you did not receive any. They made it very clear this is not an outlandish thing to ask for. So for those of you to whom it was suggested to make a towel animal yourself, just ask the front desk or house keeping.

I'm really surprised by some peoples choice to make sarcastic or rude comments toward the poster, rather than simply stating you have a different opinion on the subject matter. Is it really necessary? Why is it so difficult to just give a straight forward opinion about the topic. In addition, there are a lot of assumptions going on that those people, who desire these cute little animals, are complaining to housekeeping or the CM's for not having them in their room. I did not see anyone posting that they went to the front desk demanding them. Just because someone states they think it should be part of the experience, it does not then follow that these people would rudely demand them. Please do not assume things and then attack someone based on your assumption of how you think they would handle it.

I did not post this because I was one of the individuals someone made a sarcastic comment to. I just felt bad for the OP and others, who were attacked over their enjoyment of towel animals.

Can't we all just be kind to one another?

One time I was staying at BWV and they had a contest in the lobby, there were about 20 different numbered towel animals on a couple tables and you were asked to vote.

A few years ago we stayed at POR and my parents were in the next room. We had some type of towel animal, bed decoration (like a Mickey head), or towel toothbrush holder every day. I kept showing my mom and she was getting upset because she wasn't getting any. I asked if she was leaving a tip and she said she was planning to leave a large tip at the end of her stay. I suggested she leave something that morning. She apparently left a large tip that day and her room was decked out with animals. She was thrilled! She loves that kind of thing and was examining all the animals to figure out how to make them herself. The rest of that trip she left daily tips!

Other trips, we leave tips, but don't get much. but, usually at least my kids stuffed animals are tucked in nicely, or placed somewhere cute. I guess it just depends on your individual Mousekeeper, but in that experience it definitely made a difference to leave a daily tip.

I not only heard it from mousekeeping the conversation
came about when I saw a mousekeeper carrying a clear plastic bag full of them into the resort with her.

THANK You for that post! I am the original poster and after I saw all the responses I felt so guilty for having posted my complaint! It was not that I think towel animals are a necessity, it was simply that I wrongly thought they were still being done and it was in fact something my girls fondly remember getting many of on our trip there 3 years ago. I just didn't know it was not normal practice any longer which is what prompted the post. That is all. We survived the trip without them and I just told the girls they were not done any longer...no big deal, it just would have been nice!

I see less and less of the towel animals but I could take or leave them.

I do fondly remember the hanging monkey and the large alligator on our floor, swan on the tv stand at the Poly in 2010

Last June at GF there was an adorable " purse" made from hand towels, pipe cleaners and sticky rhinestones in our bathroom.

The only one we got in Dec at POR was the Mickey head on the bed but again not a bug deal!

THANK You for that post! I am the original poster and after I saw all the responses I felt so guilty for having posted my complaint! It was not that I think towel animals are a necessity, it was simply that I wrongly thought they were still being done and it was in fact something my girls fondly remember getting many of on our trip there 3 years ago. I just didn't know it was not normal practice any longer which is what prompted the post. That is all. We survived the trip without them and I just told the girls they were not done any longer...no big deal, it just would have been nice!

Towel animals are still being done. They're just not something to be expected every time.

this is not totally true, as my daughter is getting ready to go do a semester in Disney doing Mousekeeping, so yeah they are Disney employees, or at least some of them are.

We got towel animals twice, the first was our Oct. 2009 trip. We got two little pumpkins, done super fancy with sticker faces and such after we left a note asking for a towel animal for our daughter. We saw a TON of elaborate towel animals in all the windows surrounding our room up and down our side. I would say at least 4-5 in each window. The second was our 2012 trip where we got a Mickey on the bed- no request for it, was there when we checked in. That trip Mousekeeping would do little scenes with the kids' toys and the towels. We always tip $1 per person per day.
