We are supposed to fly home tonight (thurs) but I cannot see that happening. The whole system is down property wide so waiting til first this morning to see if we can be accommodated one more night. I went to a dentist, who was so mean and no bedside manner, over 45 min away today. We got stuck in traffic coming back for over two hrs.

He confirmed I have a raging infection and he gave me antibiotic and pain meds but it has gotten worse. Traveling into my throat and making it hard to breathe. The crappy thing is I am a single mom here with my young kiddos and not many options to find further help. I found an emergency dentist listed on International Drive, about 15 min from here, named Dr. Sidawi. His site says 24 hr emergencies so gonna call here in a few hrs when there is daylight....scared to drive anywhere by ourselves at night.
Has anyone here heard of him and have any feedback? I am scared I am looking at them pulling tooth to be able to make it home. Not sure how United will help with flights yet but gotta confirm we can get a room first.
This stinks so bad and my kids are scared because of the pain they are seeing me in.
Any suggestions would be great. I am feeling lost right now but I do know I don't want to return to the dentist I saw earlier today. Scared what he would do. He was treating me like I was there just seeking pain meds, I know people do this, but so no the case. I actually hate taking that crap unless I have no other choice. I just need this to stop!!!

Ty for listening and any advice you might have! :(

*******update 12/28******
I ended up going to Front Street Dental in Celebration to see a second dentist and he was sooooo compassionate compared to the first. Avoid Advanced Dental in Ocoee. Bad news. Good staff but to have a dentist yell at you because you are in pain is not helpful. He complemented my kids on their behavior at least but treated me awful.

The second dentist confirmed the infection and told me to stay on the clindamycin but gave me a Z-PAC if I am still not getting relief. He also changed me from Loratab to Percocet, neither of which have controlled the pain in the least. The Percocet has at least knocked me out so I can sleep but don't like that being here alone with my kids. He told me no way I needed to fly until Sunday.
I tried to seek out some pure clove oil but could not find at the store I managed to drive us to today. Don't want to drive any further on pain meds and especially in an unfamiliar area.

So the manager at our resort was wonderful and got us moved from our villa to a regular room. I would have rather used points but there was nothing available without moving every night and I just cannot do that right now. He was able to give me a huge discount and l feel very blessed for that.

I was finally able to speak to someone at United who at least made our flights bearable to swallow. I am only having to pay the exchange fee of 150 per person and I can get 100 per person back when I get home and fax the note from the dentist. The first person I dealt with at united yesterday wanted to charge me $3000.00 to change our flights because she was charging me the difference in fares.
This has been crazy and I appreciate everyone's input. Sorry so long for the update. I have never felt pain like this in my life. I would rather go through childbirth again....and both of my deliveries were long and complicated. At least I got a beautiful child in arms at the end though!!! I think I will end up with another root canal or pulled tooth when I get home. I do have an appt for the 2nd so hoping the infection is gone by then.

Now if I can continue to keep us healthy, staying in our room so should be able to, then we can be home by Sunday evening. Sick people all over Disney :(

Ty again for all the kind words and :grouphug: It is nice to have a great group to come to who understand the love of Disney and that things can go wrong here but it is still Disney! Wishing I could take my kiddos out to enjoy it more but feeling blessed they are being good for mommy!!

I am sorry your trip has ended this way.
If you are staying at a Disney resort go and see the concierge I have found them so helpful.

When we arrived my son had suspected broken arm and they helped us find help.

If you have infection that needs antibiotics you may have abscess under tooth related to sinus infection I had this a few years ago - note I am not a doctor just a fellow sufferer. It took a few days for the antibiotics to help. Anyway if this is case pulling teeth won't help. And seeing a non dentist might be what you need.

The concierge recommended centracare medical centre and they have FREE pick up and take home from resorts. See your concierge.

When we got there they immediately advised us we didn't need to see one of their doctors and gave us specialist contact details at no charge. So it turned out to be a wasted trip to centracare but they got us to the right people to help us and they might be able to advise on dentist if that is what you need.

I agree with the above post. I had an infected tooth earlier this year. They are extremely painful, and the antibiotics take some time to kick-in. Dentist gave me hydrocodone, and there were a couple of days where that didn't even faze the pain.

And these infections come on so quickly, the first day it started was like "Hmm, that doesn't feel right." The next day there was no doubt that there was an infection and I needed to call the dentist. They usually want the infection to clear before doing too much with the tooth, though they may drill to relieve some pressure. The first time he drilled, I needed 5 injections to kill the pain.

Good luck to you.

Agree with what Chuck said. Just had a root canal for Thanksgiving. The symptoms were almost identical = this doesn't feel right - so I go to the dentist who was able to take an xray and see a problem. I had just a feeling that day - no real pain. I didn't even fill my script for the pain meds till the next day, which was a saturday. When the real pain started on saturday I was so thankful I had paid attention to the minor irritation I'd had the day before!

The meds have to kick in for the pain to subside. The antibiotics need a few days to get the infection under control...maybe 5?

If I were you I would get on the plane tonight, back to the care of my regular dentist. Motrin 800 worked for me but I had to take back to back doses according to directions. They offered me tylenol 3 with codeine, but I can't tolerate the codeine - just comes back up.

So this is not going to go away - you will need follow up care as soon as the infection subsides a bit so best to be home.

Your kids are 8 and 10 from your sig so should be able to help you get together a bit.

So sorry your vacation is ending like this!

OP, I wish my aunt lived closer to Orlando so I could order her to go help you!

Oh that stuff is so useless. I just looked it up: "Hydrocodone is an effective antitussive (anti-cough) agent, and as an opiate it is also an effective analgesic for mild to moderate pain control". Oh gosh thanks, mild to moderate pain control? LOL. I had vicodin once, which is hydrocodone with acetominophen, and it was useless AND made me incredibly cranky. Did NOTHING for the pain.

Yeah, I have to say I agree with this. I'm sure the flight won't be any sort of enjoyable experience, but it might be worth it to get back home and see your own dentist.

My entire family sees Dr. Fuller at Lake Mary Dental, which is about 35 minutes from WDW. He is excellent. I am a horrible coward with zero pain tolerance. His practice is caring and understanding. 407-330-3801.

If you are still looking, post this on the podcast forum.

The staff here at DISboards, frequently read and monitor that forum and they are all local. I would trust their recommendations.

I agree with the others, I would want to go home.

i also suggest going to the front desk - my father had a hard time breathing & they were excellent - it was only an infection - but they got him the right doctor that got him antibiotics and also helped my sister stay in the area until he was able to fly again -

My biggest suggestion is GET HOME ASAP!

The worst thing to do is make a hasty decision about having a tooth pulled unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. If it is even remotely possible to save the tooth, do that! TRUST ME, that comes from experience. I have had three root canals in my life, and the life expectancy for a root canal is typically a minimum of 10 years with the proper care and attention necessary to preserve the tooth.

Once a tooth has been pulled, multiple problems can happen as a result days, weeks, months, years down the road.

Call your dentist at home have them phone in a prescription for the most powerful pain medicine they can (2-3 pills - just enough to get you home!) and then wait for the antibiotics to do their job. Ibuprofen reduces inflammation - that's your best bet for helping the antibiotic do its job.

BUT you'll need something more powerful than that as well!

Hope you feel better soon! :grouphug:

The antibiotics usually take a full 24 hours to kick in but then they work fast.
My DS had the same thing happen one trip. He had a 102 fever.
He was treated at the urgent care place.
Please do not go to any fly by night Dentist.
They usually won't treat the tooth until the infection goes down anyways.
Antibiotics and pain meds and to get home are probably your best options for now.
If you think you are having any breathing issues please have that treated ASAP!
It could be a reaction to the meds and not the infection.
Hope you feel better tomorrow.

Go to the concierge if you are staying on property. We had to go to urgent care and they gave us a voucher for a cab ride. They may be able to get you to the more reputable dentist and perhaps he/she can get you comfortable enough to get you home to your own dentist. Good luck!

I hope that everything turned out ok for you and your kids. I'm sorry that I didn't get to see your post until now. I am concerned that you were having issues with your throat and especially that you were having a hard time breathing. That sounds like it could be an allergic reaction to either the antibiotic or pain med. It's been a long time since you posted...please let us know how you are doing.

I'm glad you found someone better.

He also changed me from Loratab to Percocet, neither of which have controlled the pain in the least.

Ugh, I'm so sorry. It's such a bummer when pain pills don't work.

Can you call Whole Foods tomorrow to see if they have the clove oil?

I read this when you first posted and while I didn't comment then I will now. I was worried about you until you updated..........thankyou for that! LOL

Glad to hear that you're getting things figured out. Minor problem compared to what you're going through but one year my husband broke his glasses. The hassle of THAT was enough to make me bonkers. I don't envy your last few days and really hope you can still salvage some of your time with your children.

Best of luck to you and I'll keep you in my prayers.

Thank you for updating. I was very concerned about your trying to fly in such pain, given the changes in cabin pressure.

I'm glad you found a dentist that seems interested in helping.

 I'm glad you have gotten some compassionate help. Best wishes.

Please go to the ER if the symptoms get any worse; don't wait for your appointment. Abscesses can be serious.

Hope bYyou got home okay.
