Here is a valid reason why Disney should reduce their prices.

Im not an Occupier or anything but some of the prices are ridiculous, $14 to park a car, come on.

Have you gone to a concert lately? A major league baseball game? Heck, even a college game? $14 is a bargain!!!

Since Disney is something that everyone is entitled to, I think the big bad profitable company should stop making money for the people who invested in it and make Disney cheaper. In fact, I think that people who have low income should be allowed to go to Disney for free. Those that make more than 250K should have to pay twice as much to go. This way everyone will be treated equally.

Sounds very much like some of the recent political though processes. :rotfl:

It all depends on what you're used to. I live in NYC so $8-9 for a burger is normal to me. $14 to park for the whole day in midtown Manhattan is unheard of. If you live in a lower cost of living area, that might seem really expensive to you but to me it's normal.

It always surprises me how many communists there are on the disboards.

Have you checked out a public school textbook lately? It's what our kids are being taught. We live in Cobb County, GA (very conservative - home of Newt Gingrich), and I am amazed what my high schooler is being taught at school. I can only guess what kids in more liberal parts of the country are being taught. It is very scary for the future of our country.

My high schooler knew what socialism is, but not what capitalism is :sad2:

We spent almost $50 parking for the morning in Seattle (Pike Place Market). $14 for all day doesn't sound that bad!

I look at the price and think Bargain. It's all about what your used to. Disney is so fairly priced for what they provide. That's how I look at it from my experience on what vacations cost. At the beach its that much for just a few hours of parking.

If Disney lowered prices, the parks would be fuller and many people wouldn't enjoy the experience as much.

Financial statements for the year ending September 30, 2012, showed resort revenue (including parks and hotels) at $17 billion and operating expenses at $ 1 billion, (which means profit of $16 billion from that segment) plus $3 billion in revenue from consumer sales and operating costs of those sales at $ 857,000 million. This info is filed with the US Securities Exchange and is available free online through EDGAR. I found the info when searching the stock price for Walt Disney Company

Socialism is alive and well on the dis boards

How is that a valid reason for them to reduce their prices? Their goal is to make a profit and they did.

:goodvibes

The entire OP is just bizarre. There's nothing in their post to justify their title...

If you think the prices are too high then do what people in a capitalistic model are suppose to do, don't buy the product.

It's how a market driven system works. :confused3

Then don't pay it.

The thing is, people DO pay it, so Disney makes a profit. As long as enough people pay it, Disney will charge it.

There is a pricing equation where they figure out how much they have to sell at what price - at some point, volume goes down and you make more selling it for less. However, until you hit that point, there is profit to be made. The sweet spot is to find that exact point.

This is pretty basic cost accounting and Disney has armies of accountants that do it.

And this has nothing to do with liberal politics or policies. This is economics and accounting. Please keep the political jabs out of it. I'm about as liberal as happens on this board, and I don't think I've ever argued on this board that Disney should make less EBITDA. (Now the tax part of EBITDA.....actually, I'm anti corporate tax, too).

It always surprises me how many people don't understand economics, finance, or accounting...

I certainly wouldn't claim to know much about corporate finance, economics, or accounting...but I REALLY don't understand how making a profit means you need to lower your prices. :confused3
