Here how and having issues with my FairFx card!

Hi all;

In need of some serious help!

I brought half my spends on a Fairfx dollar card and have been using it fine in shops where they just swipe and I sign. Anyway today I tried to use it in Japan and it was a chip and pin machine and it was declined! She selected the debit option on the machine, should it have been credit?

I had enough cash to pay for it but then wanted to use the fairfx card to get cash out of an ATM as the japan fiasco used almost all of it! It kept saying that the transaction was declined no matter what options I selected!

I called to double check my pin was right and it was so that is not the issue and have been using it fine! Bought a pin in a shop after all this to check it worked and it worked fine again with the swipe and sign routine!

Am I doing something wrong here?

No personal experience but reading on other boards it seems that a few people are having issues withdrawing cash with these cards.

From what I am reading the cards are OK for purchases but stop allowing cash withdrawals after a few uses. It has been suggested that using a different providers cash machine may work.

Can you just request to use the swipe option rather than pin for every transaction?

I always just say I don't have a PIN for it and they use the credit option, I think. I have never been able to get the PIN to work with mine either. Don't use it for cash withdrawals so can't help with that I'm afraid.

Will just muddle through, pay for everything on the card and hopefully be able to avoid pin machines whilst saving my actual cash for when it's needed!

Will definitely remember this for next time though!

Try it at a different machine, sometimes it comes up as credit sometimes debit, this has happened numerous times to me but once I choose the other option no problems.

Ive been using fairfx cards for years now and never had a problem other than the credit or debit selection, we go 2 or 3 times a year and all our money is always on the card, we take cash out every few days and it's never been a problem (my mum, sister and in laws all have them and have never had issues either).
