Hercules Hooks

Anyone try those new Hercules Hooks? You know, the ones shaped kinda like a fish hook that poke through your drywall and hold 150# and only leave a pinhole behind? Do they really work?

You can make those using arts and crafts wire and a pair of pliers (and a wire cutter). A spool of 25ft is usually just a few dollars.

What kind? Wouldn't it bend? I'm picturing jewelery or floral type wire which definitely wouldn't hold a heavy picture or in my case, an antique screen door that I want to hang on the wall.

No, there is heavier stuff than that. It's also used as picture hanging (across the back of the picture) wire.

The only nice thing about those hook is that they are pre-made. They are incredibly expensive. There are many alternatives out there if you're looking for pre-made.

BTW, there is NO WAY I would hang 150 pounds on one of those hooks no matter what they claim.

You could use a wire clothes hanger if you wanted to try to make a few on your own. Just click on the larger image and bend one similar to that. The key to it's strength is the short distance from the wall. The big hook on the back is sort of there as a handle (when twisting it through the wall) and to keep it from coming back through.

Since (I just read) you want to hang a screen door on the wall, I would mount two picture hooks on the back of the door and get two 50 or 75 pound picture anchors (from Walmart) that have a built in nail and a hook. You'll have to make sure the wall anchors line up with the hooks on the back of the door (use a template) and are level.
