I just read on another post that Hercules will be retired soon, to be replaced by another show???

I'm really shocked, since Herc has been a sentimental favorite of DW and I....

Does anyone have any details on what will be replacing Herc?.....

I hope not! I think Herc is much better than Dreams!

Before our cruise 6 months ago I was really looking forward to Hercules-The Muse-ical, but the reality didn't match the expectations. I know that a lot of people LOVE that show, but I will be happy to be seeing a different show when we cruise next summer :)

I like the shows where they incorporate several of the Disney movies, I guess unless you are a BIG fan of the movie "Hercules", it just doesn't have the same appeal.

Maybe I'm just hard to please, but I wasn't overly thrilled with ANY of the shows, although Golden Mickeys and Disney Dreams were definitely worth seeing once.

I am not saying that the entertainment was bad, because the performers were all top-notch. I guess I found out that I'm not as much of a Disney fan as I thought I was. LOL We LOVED the rest of the cruise so much that we're rebooked for next summer. The fact that we weren't crazy about the stage shows did not diminish our Disney cruise experience at all. :sunny:

Okay, I'm gonna say it....THANK YOU!!! We saw it once, that was quite enough! Although humerous at times, it lacked the (souding cheesy here) the magic that the Golden Mickey's and Disney Dreams has. I personally think if it is true, it is a welcomed change for me!

I'll miss it. We thought Golden Mickey's and Disney Dreams too schmaltzy and sentimental - worth seeing once, but I never need to see either again. Hopefully they won't replace it with more of the same. It would be nice to see something else with the same sort of camp humor. Or maybe something more "Festival of the Lion King/Cirque du Soliel" (though that might be difficult to pull off on a rocking cruise ship).

I'd hate to see three campy shows, or three sentimental shows. I like the variety.

Although I've enjoyed it, it's not so good that it needs to be immortal. I'm sure they can replace it with something at least as good.

I agree somewhat....

Although Herc was not up to the grandeur and Broadway scale of Disney Dreams and Golden Mickeys, it had a simplicity and charm that we just loved....also, we liked the fact that Herc was so different than Dreams and Golden Mickeys....we really liked the corny jokes and the cheesy set details....

Dh and I really enjoy that show. I hope it's not going away forever!

DH and I *LOVE* Hercules the Muse-ical!!! We're also big fans of Hercules the movie. We'd be sad to see it go, but would understand wanting to change things around every so often. If that is its' fate, we'll always have our fond memories and laughter!

Someone on the 10 day Christmas cruise said that at a behind the scenes question session the cast said that they would be the last one to perform it. On the 12/4/04 cruise the captain said that a new show would be coming in April on The Magic. That makes sense then. We have never seen the Disney movie Hercules but really enjoyed the DCL show. Hades is such a hoot! :) We also enjoy Dreams so much that we saw both the matinee & the evening show on our last cruise.

Lisa,

That sounds about right. On my flight home from WDW on Feb 5th, I was seated next to a gentleman that used to work for Disney Imagineering. He got laid off and started his own independent contracting business. He said he would be doing some things for the new show. He and his partners were down on the Magic that Saturday morning to take measurements for the new show. He said it was quite hectic as they had a limited time before the ship set sail. He wouldn't give me any indication of what the show would be;he couldn't........

Although I LOVED Herc. the muse-ical... By the time I went on the cruise the 2nd time I was reciting the whole thing to my friend... I would miss it but I'd love to see something new.

I loved Hercules the movie but was disappointed by Hercules The Muse-ical. It was the only show on the Magic that we could have done without. Overall though, I love the Disney shows much more than the shows I've seen on either of our Princess cruises. I'm glad we saw Herc but I was planning on skipping it on our upcoming May repo cruise.

Since the new show is starting in April, I wonder if they will show them both on the repo cruises since they need to fill so many nights of entertainment?!?

The answer to the orignial question is yes, Herc is going away. The current cast on the Magic ends thier contract in May, they will be the last cast to perform Herc. The new cast will come on and will be replacing it with a show called Cinder-celebration (or something close to that). It sounds like a nice tie into the 50th Anniversary theme.

Just to add our two cents, we've loved Herc and truly enjoy all of the shows. It is fun to see new ones or changes to shows each time we sail but we'll also miss this one.

Glad that you saw this thread. I couldn't remember who had reported that to us. :) With the new crew coming on in April, maybe they are going to have both shows for the repo cruise, which would make sense. I know that DD is totally in awe of Cinderella and we are already looking forward to the new show at MK in December. :) Having this on the trip is going to just blow her away. I hope that they have a matinee that day so that we can see it twice. :)
