Her little BEAK fell off!!!

Our granddaughter was in the church Christmas program last night.

She played two parts and did a wonderful job with both.


The first part was that of a cute fluffy little yellow bird. During a song her little BEAK fell off and landed in the feathers on her chest...she just kept singing and smiling as if nothing was wrong!
It was VERY cool to see her keep HER cool that way.



The second part she played....and we LOVED this....was the part of a "Wise Woman"....all 3 wise men were played by girls!

Too funny!

my 10 year old was in her concert at school. she 's a member of the recorder club and also sings in the chorus.

the chorus sang a song called "holiday lights". the teacher turned off all the lights and asked each child to bring in a flashlight. the song mentions lights of red, green, gold and white, so the teacher coevered the flashlights with cellophane to create color effects. I am so glad I bought a two-pack of flashlights, because dd left the first one in her desk and tured on and the battery died. but when she tried to put the cellophane on the second flashlight, it ripped, and the teacher had to replace it.

for the recorder club part of the program, the teacher chose students to announce each piece before it was played. my dd was chosen to announce "Ode To Joy". while the other kids simply read a blurb about the music, my dd actually spoke to the audience -- her bubbly personality was so evident.

older dd's concert is thursday. I can't wait.


both girls appeared in a dance show at a local library last week. their dance school put on the show. younger dd's tap class did "Singin' in the Rain". her jazz class did some Hawaiian thing from Lilo and Stitch. and older dd's jazz class did "That Thing You Do" --- dd in a mini and go-go boots. so cute!

How sweet, Patti! And great that she kept her cool.

My little guy sang Rudolph in a play Friday night. He was dressed in a red turtleneck and jeans, sporting antlers and a red nose.

And all I could think was, "what a string bean!"

My kid is SO long and skinny, I can't believe he's mine.

Oh what precious memories!!!

Please, please, please...all of you with little ones that perform in their little school productions.....treasure these moments. For they're gone all too soon.

I have some wonderful memories of my girls in their school and/or community theater productions. Priceless.

The best thing my church ever did was DISCONTINUE the Christmas pagent on Christmas Eve. As the final "director" I wish they had done it a year earlier! I had my hands full and then some!

Now what they do is much better. They have 4 pews roped off. And they are labeled with the "characters" of the Christmas story. Anyone is invited to play any part they want (except for the baby Jesus who is always played by a doll). So we may have 3 Marys, 2 Josephs, 2 Angels, etc. Minimalist costumes are laid out in the pews (Mary just has a simple head wrap, the shepards have crooks, etc.). This way may be a bit odd, but there are no more tears over who gets to play Mary. And sometimes we only end up with one Wise Man, but it doesn't matter. As the story is read, the Pastor indicates who should come up to the "manger". It's a little off the wall, but it works. All in all makes for a slightly chaotic, always exuberant Christmas Eve service for the family.

LOL, annie&hallie's mom. both of my dd's are in plays and school or camp all the time. I don't envy the directors.

when my 12 year old was in 4th grade she played FDR in "Annie". she was supposed to sit behind a desk, then stand up to say her lines. the microphone got caught on the chair and she couldn't stand up! but she's a real trooper, said the lines from the chair. but even something little like that could throw off an entire production!

When DD was much younger, the church's program included the Christmas story and DD played a sheep. But most of the cast was way too young and started playing all over the place. She is so out going and was so disapointed that it was melting down around her. While the parents were recuing thier kids from the stage. the Pastor's wife whispered to DD that perhaps she could sing a song while the chaos was being handled. DD was handed a microphone, and what do you suppose she sang for the congregation? The country song "Prop Me Up Beside The Jukebox If I Die"! Well, I could have died, right then and there.

aren't these events great?! DS 11 was in a Christmas play today that my wife and I were both able to attend. It was put on by his grade 6 French Immersion class so it was done completely in French. They did a great job for kids who are only in their second year of the program. He was one of the Magi . He hid from every attempt to take his picture. It was almost like he had radar LOL. Other parents were snapping pictures left, right and centre and he didn't move but when DW took a picture he would hide behind some bigger kid.I swear he never even looked over to see when she was about to snap a photo, he just knew.

yes, DisMN, all the kids in our elementary school learn to play the recorder in 3rd grade. the ones who truly like it join the club and perform at the concerts.

Nagle, my dd's went through a camera shy periiod too. but they're over it now.
