How many times do you find it hard to figure out what to get your kids for Christmas.....well... that's me every year. I found that they either don't play with what they have asked for or what they ask for seem to be outrages for their age. (my 8 year old asked for an Ipad) anyways I figured I would start a thread on what you have or are buying your kids.

Please let us know the age of the child.

I hope this gives someone help with ideas.

My kids are 8 8 and 5.

TIA

For the one year old. Unicorn pillow racer. Minnie's Flippin Kitchen to share with the 3 year old. Soft plush Jessie and Woody. Not sure what else for the 1 year old yet. Don't want to overload on junk. My mom bought the 3 and 1 year old all of the Disney Princess Lego's to share together.
For the 3 year old, Cinderella Bike, Cinderella Pillow Pet, Dreamlite Unicorn, Up in the air about a Leappad 2. Not sure what else.
For the 7 year old boy, Tony Hawk bike, new helmet with cool mohawk look to it, some nintendo 3ds games. not sure what else.
For the nine year old, a Kindle Fire HD, some games for 3ds. Not sure what else.
For the 16 year old, MMA gear and not sure what else. Teenagers are difficult.
For the 17 year old MMA gear, some Native American inspired artwork. Also difficult.

I stopped buying my kids all of the junk they see ads for on TV and really started paying attention to the things they actually enjoy doing. For my 8yo that was playing sports/playing outside. So my kids are getting:

8yo: Razor spark rider, foam bow and arrow set, dog dreamlite, Legos, an xbox game and a bike if I can find a deal on craigslist.
11yo: xbox games, 3ds games, some Cars toys (he collects them)
13yo: ipod touch, Wizard 101 subscription, a couple video games, root beer making kit
15yo: ipod touch, archery set, xbox games
16yo: suitcase, other travel accessories, journal, a ds game and maybe snap circuits (her brother has them and she's asking for a set).

They'll get some other odds and ends, but that's the majority of them.

DD2 is getting a MagnaDoodle, a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Look and Find book, a Snow White My First Princess set, one of those water wheel things, some bath stuff, a flashlight that makes noise, a hexbug nano set, hopefully a superhero cape and probably a Rody horse. Some other things that I can't remember.
DD4 is getting some Zhu Zhu pet stuff, a hair salon chair for her Rapunzel, a few movies, a Rapunzel jewelry set, a Flynn Rider doll, new crocs, hopefully some new sheets for her bed and hopefully a superhero cape (both girls love jumping off the couch). I was hoping that she would ask for a bigger type thing but she hasn't so far and I've about reached the end of the budget so I think she is done.
DSD11 is getting a bunch of random books, a few movies, some activity books, a pair of boots, a fuzzy pillow. She's also asking for candy and gift cards and I am debating on either a trip to a living history place or a concert of some kind.

I have random stocking stuffer type things too and I still have the rest of my shopping to do so if I fall in love with something for any of them, I might find a way to get it.

Yes, my kids (3 and 6) don't watch TV so they don't see the ads, and so the only things they seem to want are what other kids have told them about. I sat both kids down with the Toys R Us catalogue and asked them if anything looked interesting. From that, I got the following lists:

DD6: Nintendo DS (she played with a friends's), XBox and Dance Central 3 (she played with a friend's-- luckily my parents are taking care of this one!), Furby, Princess Barbie, Barbie Clothes, Tinker Bell playset, Tinker Bell books, and a really big pink gem (?). She also wants the real Silvermist. Not sure how I am going to do the last two.

DD3: Doc McStuffins, Barbie guitar, Kidz Bop Microphone, and Leap Pad

I hope they do not add things as the weeks go on, but I know they will!

I kind of have the same issue with my son. It stems from the fact that something looks so cool and interesting in the commercial, but when he gets it he quickly realizes it does one or two things, and doesn't hold his interest.

So we try to stay away from things that won't hold his interest very long and steer him towards the things that will last.

This year he is getting Lego Mindstorm NXT 2.0 for his big gift. He and my husband will get so much enjoyment out of that together that it's a sure hit.
He'll also get 2 new PS3 games, books, Skylanders Giants, a new racetrack and cars, board game and assorted little things.

DD 15 is easier because she's gotten to an age where she's very specific about what she likes. She'll get books, make-up, gift cards and clothing items.. but her big gift.. is tickets to see One Direction. She thinks its sold out and she's out of luck and I managed to get some without her knowing. She is going to go NUTS over that gift.

I am struggling too! My boys are 5.5 and 2.5. The older one asks for everything and the younger one only asked for a firetruck. (which he'll get)
We got a puppet theater for them to share and some puppets. We also got Jake's Bucky the pirate ship and 2 of the Hook sets. Not sure if these will be joint gifts or go to younger DS. 5 yr old is getting Imaginext Batcave and bat mobile. angry birds hot wheels set (although I think it's junky, it was only 9.99), dream lights pillow pet, books, one leappad game. 2 yr old is getting little people wheelies car ramp, regular pillow pet and that's where I am stuck! I need a few more things for the little guy but I am not sure what. Need to go to TRU or Target and walk around and look. Might get a Doc McStuffins set for younger one. What he really loves is Daniel Tigers Neighborhood but there are no toys for it yet! Was hoping they'd get something out before Christmas!!

DS 5 is getting Wii games, and some movies. I might let DH talk me into geting him a new ipod touch (he has my old original generation touch). But his birthday is January so that might be for his birthday instead.

DS 1.5 is getting Cars (or cars) anything with wheels! Also a mickey mouse clubhouse play set and some little people playsets that I got at a consignment shop.

A joint gift fo them will be the ImagiNext Cars 2 playset.

Little DS birthday is Feb so he will be getting a ride-on battery operated car from the whole family.

I have WAY too many toys in my house!

For my 4.5 year old DD (I'll put a * by anything she specifically asked for): Nintendo DS*, clothes for her stone goose* (LOL!), a Razr scooter*, Strawberry Shortcake doll + berry bitty market, Eric Carle book + matching stuffed animal, electronic drum set, Uglydoll, Barbie puppy water park*, Lalaloopsy school bus, pirate costume*, Tiana with clip on clothes (can't remember the name!), a Toob.

For my 3 year old DS: scooter, Toob, remote control helicopter, Hot Wheels semi hauler, Monster Truck, Leapster game, a bin full of dress up clothes (picked up Halloween costumes at Once Upon a Child), Eric Carle book + stuffed animal, Build Em Up Roary (a race car that the kids can "fix"), measuring tape, Switch N Go dinosaur.

Dd7 and ds9 are both going to get iPod touches and iTunes gift cards.

Ds9 - wwe13 for Xbox, possibly sky landers giants for wii, the adventures Xbox Kinnex game. He may get a wwe brawling buddy if I find a good deal.

Dd7 - winx club DS game, school/town clothes (she does Cheerleading), stuff from justice. She wants a bunch of winx club stuff but she never plays with what she has.

I will probably get them some board games as well.

DD2's birthday is in December. She is getting the Peppa Pig playhouse for her birthday. For Christmas she is getting the Peppa Pig going on a picnic car, Leappad 2, Little People Zoo Talkers Safari Truck, and I don't know what else. Probably some My Little Pony stuff since she loves them and definitely some books.

DS16 is getting a TV, Darth Vader M&M machine, Gamestop gift card, and probably some video games. DH wants to buy him some head phones for the Xbox but they cost $150 and I am just not sure about that on top of the TV. If we do then that will be the end for DS gifts.

myDD is 13 and so far its:

Ticket to 1 direction concert that is i JUNE bt its all she is really asking fo.
I-tunes gift cards
gift cards for barnes and noble orother book store
wii game or too

family gift is tickets tosea world and giftcertificate to a family place likea paint ur own pottery or dave and busters.

wouldlike tofind something non video/computer related for her to actually do/use but have no ideas!!

For the big, pink gem if you have a Hobby Lobby close by they have big plastic gems in different colors by the cash register.

My 9 year old DS is getting a laptop, three books, a couple of small lego sets and some art stuff. What we've always done with him is allow him to ask for three things. That way he's always been really careful to only ask for what he really wants. Santa usually throws in a couple of surprises as well.

DS2 is getting a comforter set for his big boy bed, a couple of Thomas Train playsets, a Wheelies set that I found on clearance this summer, and the Mickey Mouse Barnyard set. I may also dig out his brothers old Mickey Mouse Clubhouse if I can find it.

One of my boys LOVES those gems that are paperweights - has them in blue, green, red and clear. LOVES them. Found some on eBay and a couple at Walgreens. Never paid more than 7 dollars. They are just clutter to me, but they are such prizes to him. (Yes, he knows they are just glass.) They make-believe play all sorts of things with them. Great present for kiddos.

DS 6 - Skylanders Giants since he's been playing with the original Skylanders the 11 yr old got last Christmas, Just Dance Disney Wii game

DS 17, 15, 11 - iphone/ipod alarm clock speaker dock for each of them, maybe one for DH too!

Haven't really done much yet this year.

6 yr old nephew wants Ninjago legos, 6 yr old niece would be happy with anything (her list is loooooooong!) 8 & 9 yr old nieces - no idea

Thank you for the ideas! I'm going to look into them!

I forgot, we are also planning on getting DD2 a tool set and a toddler measuring tape so she will stay out of DH's tools.

DD10 wants all things Hunger Games! T-shirts, blanket, beach towel :rotfl2:, etc.... She also wants a bow and arrow set (big surprise there!!)

DS9 doesn't really have anything in mind but he is very into cub scouts, camping, and fishing, so I'm going to get him quite a bit of his own equipment for that.

I'm also getting them each digital cameras. Last summer they went to 3 summer camps between them and each time I bought a disposable camera and then had to pay 10 bucks a pop to develop them! I'm going to get them each a 50ish dollar Black Friday camera!

One of their best presents ever was a couple of years ago I got them tons of 2 foot sections of PVC piping and various connectors. I went to WalMart and got cheap flat sheets. They still build forts with that stuff :thumbsup2
