Wasn't sure where to post this.:confused3
Last time we were on a plane, two years ago, my daughter ( now 8 ) got motion sick on the plane. To the point where she did throw up when we landed.
I would like to avoid this during the plane ride this time. Does anyone have any suggestions to help this?
Thanks, Diane

Bonine - you can get it at CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, Rite Aid. It works great and the best thing you don't get drowsy!!! I get wicked car sick all the time and I used it for our 24 hour ride down to Disney and had no side effects what so ever. Now I use it every time we're at an amusement park and I can go on the rollercoaster rides or any ride DD9 is crazy enough to drag me on.

I've used dramamine, but it makes me tired so I stay away fom it.

My dd's both get carsick and airsick -

The day of the flight have her eat light, toast and clear liquids. We avoid dairy not because it makes you more prone to airsickness but in case you do get sick it curdles and "complicates" things if you know what I mean.

My kids got relief from a 1/2 kids dose of dramamine, it took the edge off without making them too drowsy. I haven't used bonine because it wasn't approved for kids until recently. Make sure to give it in advance of the flight.

Old fashion remedy, ginger snaps, also help my kids alot - a nice snack and it definately helps settle the stomach.

Lastly stay calm and re-assure your dd that it will be ok, she will probably be fine and if she isn't that's ok too. Have the "bag" ready but don't leave it in plain sight - that is a trigger for one of my kids. Also have a change of shirt for both of you onboard just in case.

They now have phenagen, an anti nausea medication that is travel friendly (used to only be available in a injection or suppository).

It is a small syrynge (without the needle) that has a gel in it. You apply it to the wrist and rub it in. It works very fast, and the syringe is so small (it takes very little to work) that it makes the 3 ounce rule.

You do have to have a perscription, but it is remarkable how well it works.

ETA: PS I think it may need to be refridgerated long term. We had it in the first aide box while driving, but then we kept it in the fridge the rest of the time.

I NEVER fly w/o dramamine. The drowsiness is a little annoying but it is fail proof. Nothing else I've ever tried works 100% of the time. I can read, watch movies, do anything. But be sure to give it your child an hour b4 take off. The chewable kind is orange flavored and my kids like it too. My youngest gets sick and it's a life saver. Go w/ the dramamine! They also have non drowsy kind but it's not as effective. Fun flying!

if you do not want her to be drowsy there are these things called sea-bands. They look just like sweat bands for the wrist except they have a little bead thing that you put on some pressure point. I'm pretty sure you can get them at longs. And they do work for motion sickness.

My ds (7) gets air sick everytime we fly and we fly very often. I finally asked our pediatrician before we went to Hawaii in July and she said to give him Benadryl. It did make him tired (but on a 7 hour flight, it was fine with me!). He was awake for the landing and had no problems what so ever! It's miserable having a sick kid, especially on the landing when you have to stay seated and buckled.

I get airsick whenever I fly. Have since I was a child. I take a full dose of Benedryl about 10 mins before boarding. It works- but does make me sleepy. Not a big deal- as I sleep it off on the plane and then when we get there I take another nap. Easier for a child as she doesn't have to be in charge of kids!! :)
I also eat salty pretzles during takeoff and whenever I feel nauseous. It really helps. I think the combination of the salt and the dryness of the pretzle helps. It works so well!!

Peppermint candies or gum...I always get motion sick and always carries them in my purse. They help settle my stomache. I also take Dramamine when we fly or are going on long trips. I've given DD3 Benadryl (per our pediatrician)to make the flight easier on him.

Also...I know this is going to sound totally crazy, but it actually used to work for me when I was little. If I was starting to feel sick, my Mom would start talking about and get me talking about something. It would take my mind of my stomache, because I was more horrified at the fact that she had the odesity to ask me about the cute boy that sat across from me in front of my Dad and I would be trying desperately to change th subject, so I would forget about my stomach. Of course she always asked like she didn't have a clue...:lmao:
