EVERYONE BE AWARE:
Thrifty Car rental is now charging a drop off fee of $25.00 for folks that pick up transportation in Orlando and drop off here.
I spoke to Stephanie Bailey one of the GM's and told her that it appears that Thrifty doesn't realize the impact that this will make on their business and I would be posting there new "charges" so be aware of this extra charge.

When I spoke to the GM yesterday from Thrifty, she asked me to write a letter of what I thought the impact of the drop off fee they could expect from folks visiting here and I shared my thoughts with her so she was going to present my suggestion to drop the fee, keep reasonable rates since in doing so, they would improve their contact with customers. Will post if I hear anything different.
Hope all is well in your world, here we are enjoying warm weather but with the warm weather staying through most of the winter, this summer is going to be a sizzler which opens us up to hurricanes, but we have been blessed for 2 years now

Sometimes numbers do count in making a difference.
Short story - years ago my mom was fighting life against "C" - this was in the 70's - my baby sister lived about 15 miles from mama - both had a need to speak to each other often during the day, night etc and each call cost 30 cents and all of us just were racking up $$$$ talking to each other - I woke up one night and decided I was going to do something about it - it took a little over a year, many threats against my life, petition, trips to Tallahassee, going in front of the PSC board a number of times, standing on street corners with banners etc, but I accomplished the feat of having my mom and sister being able to talk to each other anytime they wanted without the charge, other families being able to do the same, all of mama's doctors were 30 cent a call away. I had so many rally with me and we did make it happen. When I was told so many times I could not do it, I did.
So if you really believe in something, you can make a change.
Brevard County became the first county in the United States to have free toll dialing. God Bless America

Keep the car - you will find it great to have transportation - its easier to drop everyone and everything off and one person return car and take shuttle.
If you are renting Avis and he gets bored, he can always walk over to the shop and we will keep him company .

Did you mean keep the car for the week or do two one way rentals using the rental shuttle?

Sorry, I'm looking at either two one way rentals from MCO or a 10 day rental leaving the car at the RI. We're flying in the night before and staying the night after just in case.

Do a 2 way rental - in the long run, it will be cost effect.
I am sure you will have others pop in and give you the best advise since they have been there and done that ;-)

from what I understand is that this fee is IF you are renting a car from them in Orlando and dropping it off here, the $25.00 will be charged. I will call Stephanie just to vertify so that you won't be concerning yourself over it.

OK just got off the phone with Stephanie, YEP you are going to be charged a drop off charge of now $15.00 reduced from $25.00 - the higher ups will NOT discontinue the drop off fee - my suggestion? Go somewhere else until the company recognizes that the drop off fees are not neccessary, but the final choice is yours.

I decided to check out how much a 10 day rental would be from National. I was worried because my 5 nights over Easter for a full size is $444.

Guess what. The 10 day over Thanksgiving is $386. Go figure!

My great Grandmother was one of the original Sufferagettes and I get my fighting power from her!!! I bet you have it somewhere in you too... We would have been great out there with the banners and such fighting for our rights!!!

(by the way... I got the Sec. of the Treasury to yell at the guards at the US Mint in Philly because they wanted me to leave my 2 nephews out on the pavement while I paid for their souvineers...) (I get thrown out of some of the BEST places!!!) (and my brother is FBI... I can just IMAGINE what my FBI file looks like!!!)

I'm guessing that the other car rental companies will eventually follow suit. The parking fee increases to $12/day and then $15/day paved the way for Thrifty and then the rest to do this. I'm sure they know that the people renting cars at MCO, returning them at the port and then re-renting upon return from their cruises are primarily trying to save a few bucks. For people that are savvy enough and informed enough to do this, it mostly becomes an analysis of the $$$ for each option.

It took one woman (me) to take on one HUGE powerful corporation which was Southern Bell in the 1970's and against ALL ODDS, I was the one that got the phone call at 10PM one night and it was Paula Hawkins who was on the Public Service Commisson at that time and just said congratulations Shirley, you did it and you beat the odds soooooo if you want to make a point and you believe in what is right, then the decisions are in your hands.
I really believe the fee will be dropped.
