UPDATE ON THE RADISSON:
this is a note that I received Joe P, the GM with the big heart< if anyone had concern about the construction there at the hotel.

Hi Shirley – and yes on Tues half of the front exterior entrance to the hotel was closed down – we have pulled up the concrete walk ways in the front part of the hotel and replaced it with new pavers” it took us 3 days to do the “dirty work” it is now open (still have a few minor things to do the area) I snapped a picture this morning.

Also in the last 2 weeks we expanded our Tiki Bar area (outside) and made that a larger area and also did the pavers there. Also a couple of pictures this morning

And the other area that person was talking about is where our 100 building meets the 200 building – The 100 building is where we are completing the renovation of the guest rooms – it is in its final stages – they are laying the new pavers for the walk ways around that building as I write this and we will starting moving furniture into the building on Wednesday and have it open for the 4th of July

I'm looking for a hotel the night before we cruise next month. The information at the beginning of this thread is wonderful. However, it doesn't mention which hotels are on or near the beach. I'm looking for a nice, clean hotel within a block of the ocean for one night. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

Good morning,
Unfortunately there is no where that anyone can park their cars while on a cruise except the hotels and you do have to spend at least one night in order to do that - Sorry
As always
Shirley

Thanks, Shirley. I was hoping some of these people that did transportation would have bought a big old piece of land that people could park on and pay them a daily rate instead of the port! Oh well, maybe someone will do it in the future. Again, thank you.

You know --you came up with an excellent idea --let me speak to Ron with CBS and see what ideas he can come up with and will let you know ok?

06/22/08 UPDATE FOR SMOKERS STAYING AT THE RADISSON
Someone asked me to find out as to what the rules were with smoking at the Radisson and I am posting the note that Joe P wrote me in his answer.

Hi Shirley and here is the latest on the no-smoking at the Radisson Resort at the Port

Yes all of our guest rooms are now non-smoking as is all of our interior public space (Lobby, restaurant, meeting rooms etc) however you may smoke anywhere outside and we have plenty of ashtrays around for everyone’s convenience. Yes the Tiki Bar will be a smoking area – the only area outside area where we are going to prohibit smoking is around the Kiddie Pool area – It is something our guests have asked us to do – the main pool area and deck area’s will remain smoking area’s
Hope that this will help with the question asked

UPDATE 0623/2008
OK I finally had the chance to stop by and meet the GM at Ocean landing Resort who is Rod Ressler. I found him to be a super gentleman who was more than glad to answer any and all questions I had for him on OLR. I found him very accomadating and if you have any questions or problems, just drop me a note and I will forward it to him as I do all the other hotel GM's.
Again understand my shop nor I have any interest with anyone I stop by to chat with and give my thoughts and feelings on also.
Anyhow if you have any thoughts or questions, just let me know

OK here is your answer from Ron at CBS

Hello Shirley
Thanks for taking the time to write and send me the post that you did. Now
the only other places are the hotels. But you have to purchase a room for an over night stay. That’s it. The lowest hotel room rate with free parking is the Fawltey Towers Motel.
Sorry I couldn't be of further help
Ron

Shirley –

Can you tell me what national stores or restaurants may be near the port or near where most of the crew stays when they are off duty? I am putting together a list of items I want to purchase for our crew staff’s thank-you gift bags and thought that maybe they would enjoy a dinner out somewhere if it is near them? Does this sound practical? I want to do more than just candies.

THANKS

In all honesty, they head out to the mall, Target and Walmart. I know there is a Mariner ministery here in Cape Canaveral that some of the crew members can go hang out - If I get a chance, will give them a call tomorrow and find all the particulars OK?

I know I have spoke to so many of the crew members and they rather have the $$$, but its always up to those that want to give the gifts.

I have a better idea - let me drop the crew members a note and will post what is said ok?
Always

UPDATE 06/27/2008

Country Inn and Suites
Website: http://www.countryinns.com/capecanaveralfl

The CI&S is now offering a free continental breakfast that includes sausage, bacon, eggs, waffles, cereral, juice, milk and coffee etc.
They also now have their own shuttles to the port and no longer need to depend on another shuttle service and one of them is brand new :-)

Offers rates with park and cruise but it’s been confirmed that you can leave your car without paying for a park and cruise rate.
Kelly Powell is your GM there and a sweetie to work with if you have any issues, questions etc.
Another place which is high on my recommendation list
UPDATE 06/27/2008
They have a great summer package that includes a $50.00 gas gift certificate.
Their shuttles are now being offered on Friday and Saturday for guest that need to go to different places in Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach at no charge,

Thanks Shirley for checking on crew gifts. We will be tipping of course, these are just something extra to say thanks.

I had a note back from one of the crew members and mostly what they do is as I said and hang around the phones to call home. You can get them a Walmart or Merritt Square Mall gift card and I am sure they would enjoy that BUT before you do, find out if there are any interest attached to the card.
My girl gave me one for Christmas and almost $10.00 was taken out right off the bat even before I used it.
Hope that helps

This is for anyone who is on the West Coast Mexico cruises... in Puerto Vallarta there is a SUPER WALMART and a SAM's Club directly across from the pier... We gave cards as an extra to our tips (which we upped because they were fantastic on the ship) and they said it was good because they could go right across and get what they needed...

UPDATE IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON WATCHING FIREWORKS HERE IN COCOA BEACH THIS 4TH OF JULY

FIREWORKS IN COCOA BEACH HAVE BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF FUNDING.

There will be firework displays though in Cocoa on the Indian River.
So sorry
