I'm going to risk the wrath of the mods (if any are about) by putting a totally
offtopic.gif
thread on here but we are desperate for help. Poor Rhiannon hasn't been able to get on the DIS for over a week, apart from a brief spell last weekend, and has tried all sorts including a new browser, clearing her cookies, her cache and her temporary internet files. She can get on from work or from my house but not from her own. She can get on wdw.info but not onto the discussion forums which is where she wants to be. PLEASE if anyone has any ideas PLEASE HELP!!!!!

What does she see when she tries to come on here?

She hasn't somehow made disboards.com a restricted site has she?

I don't know Steve but I'll tell her what you said!! Desperation , frustration and exasperation are setting in rapidly as you can imagine!! Thanks for your help.

I really wish I could help. :( The only thing I can think of is that it's a problem with Rhiannon's ISP - Internet Service Provider, eg. Wanadoo, BT Internet, AOL (sorry if I'm being patronising here!). She might want to try contacting them and they might be able to suggest something?

Thank you Emma! Please don't worry about being patronising - I'm a total idiot when it comes to computers - don't understand the simplest thing, so am always grateful when people keep it simple! She did contact BT asking if they'd blocked it but they said they don't block internet sites. But it would be a good idea to ask them for advice - thank you!!!

Di, as you know I'm NOTa computer tecnician AT ALL , but I'll ask DGH tonight if he can be of some help .

BUT Iwoud suggest that YOU write to the TEchnical support board here and explain the troubles Rhyannon is having , THEY COULD HELP ... :confused3 I guess!

Hope this will be fixed soon !!! :wizard:

Thank you Laura - we would very much appreciate Marco's help, if possible. I have posted a plea on the Tech Board too but no joy so far!!

Regarding restricted sites - the place to look is in Tools > Internet Options > Security > Restricted Sites - then click on sites and if disboards.com or a variation of that is in there then you can select it and hit remove.

Another option is to go to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites and add disboards.com by clicking Sites, filling in the web addy and hitting Add.

Hope something works.

I've spoken to Jason, and he says that he really needs to know what message she gets when she tries to access the forums. It may be the firewall that is preventing access, in which case temporarily disabling it then accessing the site again would work.

More info would help alot.

Thanks Steve - that sounds great - I really do appreciate your help very much indeed and I know Rhiannon does too and will thank you herself when she gets back on!! :sunny:

Thank you so much Joanne and Jason! She's at work at the moment but when she gets home I'll phone her and let you know exactly what the message is that she gets and what she sees onscreen. Thank you!

Works perfectly - those downloading, you will see a countdown of about 45 seconds on the page the link opens - when the countdown reaches zero you click the download button and wait a few seconds, then a dialogue will pop up asking where you want to download - et volia!

Di, your file is in WMA (Windows Media Audio) which plays perfectly on any PC and most MP3 players except iPods which are overly fussy and lower audio quality than iRiver and Creative.

Sorry I can't help, my computer skills are even worse than my spelling ability.
Sorry to hear that Rhiannon has a problem hope it gets solved soon.

I've just spoken to her on the phone and she says that regardless of how she tries to get into the site - IP number, google, yahoo, mozilla, etc she just gets a message "This page cannot be displayed " and no suggested redirection etc. She can get onto wdw.info but it will not allow her to go onto the discussion forums - she gets the "This page cannot be displayed" message again.

Jason said that he will have a look around this evening and see if he can suss anything out. He works in Technical Support so he's used to frustrating PC problems!

That would be fantastic Joanne - please thank Jason very much! It has occurred to me that, as she can't get on at home using her PC or laptop, it must be an ISP problem but as I know very little about computers that may not follow. Does that shed any light on the situation? She's with BT but they say the problem's not with them.
