Hello all! I am very very new at this, however I have many questions! I just got back from my first trip to Disney with my Fiancée, and we sat through a DVC meeting. We are very interested, however are a little hesitant at the same time. We are in our mid-twenties and are not sure if this will be worth our while for the time being.

I love the idea that there are resorts all around the world, so we are not limited to just Disney. I would like to hear some feedback from you guys if anyone has been to the other resorts besides the Disney ones (which are BEAUTIFUL!).

Also, since all we can afford at the moment is the 160pt package, is that enough to do more than one vacation usually? That is my biggest worry; I need at least one vacation a year, hopefully 2! Also, how does it work to add on points? What do they come out to per point? I believe our guide told us $112, and they would double our down payment, but is that the best incentive or should I ask for another? I saw in some of the forums that they are discounting the price per point-wouldn't that be a better deal?

So many questions!

Thank you all for reading and I can’t wait for all of your helpful answers!

I've read many advising that buying DVC is a good value for staying DVC but not necessarily a good deal for trading out. If you want to go to WDW every year or other year then DVC would be a good deal. I wish I had bought a long time ago when we didn't have kids. As far as what 160 pts will get you for a stay it depends on where you want to stay and when. The resort you buy into will be your home resort meaning you can book that resort 11 months out then other resorts 7 months out based on availability. The DVC point charts can be found at the top of this page under The Timeshare Store ad. Based on the time of year you travel, the resort you want to stay and the size of the accomodations, the points required vary greatly. Since it's just the two of you, you can stretch your points by staying in a studio. As far as price, $112 is the full price per point but they are offering incentives right now. Tell your guide that you have read about the current incentives online and that you also have a current member referal (which you can find on the referral thread here, anyone will be a referal - we get something for being a referral - I don't know what it is because I haven't done it yet) but the important part is that you get I think an extra $8 off per point. Here is the link for current incentives http://dvcnews.com/content/view/227/173/ . Good luck with your decision! I am sure you will get a lot of great advice on here!

Unless you're set on going to Disney every year or two, it doesn't sound like DVC is for you. It's a poor choice and a lot more expensive that other option to accomplish non DVC trips. For that every few year trip you could always just pay cash (? with discounts) or rent from an owner. IF you were to buy, you could save a lot of $$$ resale.

DVC is an expensive timeshare and you will get the most value from it if you use it to visit the DVC resorts.

But, 160 points is more than enough to get a trip to WDW once a year, especially if it is just two people.

I own 180 points and travel in the summer (Magic season--higher point level). I can go yearly for 5 nights in a 1 bedroom or 8 nights in a studio at BLT.

If I went other times, I could stretch my vacation. Adding on points is simple, if you deal direct with Disney. You just give them a call and start the process. The price per point would be whatever they are offering at the time.

I just did another 50 point BLT add on and it was $104.00 per point. Before you invest in this purchase, it sounds like you know to do lots of reading to make sure it is right for you!

Good luck!!!

as already stated, DVC is a better deal if you buy it to stay at DVC resorts. it's nice to have the options but there are cheaper ways to stay elsewhere.

look at the point charts linked above, and figure how many pts it would typically take to vacation the way you like at the resort you prefer.

if 160 pts is a stretch, look for a resale contract. you can start with only 50 pts or 100 pts...for considerably less than the direct price. if you only need 100 pts to stay for a week in a studio, then start with a 50 pt contract and use it at wdw every other year and just pay cash for your other vacations.
