This may not be the right board but I need some serious help.

My boss just unloaded 4 boxes of paperback books on me. I thought I could take them to the consignment stores but none of the stores takes paperback.

Anyone have any idea what I can do now? Is Ebay really the way to go or avoid it by all costs?

TIA

I'd check to see if you have a local bookstore that might sell used books. I know we have one in our town. Otherwise you can try Craigslist.

Our local nursing homes take donations of paperbacks for their lending library.

If you're looking to sell them I would say Craigslist, eBay or yard sale.

our area has a site called freecylce....it's just what it says. When you have something you don't want anymore you post it on there and there's ALWAYS someone out there that will want it. They only thing is, is that they HAVE to pick the item/s up. It's great. I've gotten a lot of items on there and have offered them as well. Then there's also Savers, if you have one in your area. The proceeds go to Big Brothers/Sisters.

If you donate to your public library, goodwill, or salvation army, you can get a receipt for a tax deduction.

I think you can sell used books on Amazon and Barnes and Noble's websites, too. You may do better there, lots of people look to those two site for used books.

Are you looking to get rid of them or make a little money for your trouble? If you want to sell them, I've had good experiences with half.com. I prefer it over eBay because the fees are more reasonable; basically they charge a fixed % when you sell it plus they reimburse you part of the shipping charge. Amazon has a similar program, but their fees tend to be higher.

If you want to find out how much people are selling the books for, try addall.com. You can do a search and see whether it's worth trying to sell or give the book away.

Good luck!

Do you have a Half Price Books in your area? They'll "buy" them back from you. Its not a lot but that's what we do when we have boxes of books to get rid of.

What kind of books are they? Usually pb's don't sell very well on ebay unless they are rare or some non-fiction. I would try selling as a lot on craigslist.

Thanx everyone for the suggestions.:grouphug: They all romance ones. Harlequin and Shilloute (sp). My boss gave them to me because (1) she didn't want them and (2) she does everything in her power to try to help me make more money. I went thru the books tonight and maybe about a quater of them, the spine wasn't even broken which says to me that they have not been read.

Side Trip: North Carolina state employees have to take a pay cut. When they annouced that, she gave me a raise. :cool1: I love that women to pieces!! There are 3 set holiday she gives me a cash "bonus" for...Administrative Day, my birthday, and Christmas.

The only book store we have in my city is B&N. That's it. LOL. We are starved for another book store.

There is a used book store in Knoxville, TN called McKay's. (I'm pretty sure they have other locations too.) They buy used books, videos, DVDs, Cds, and video games. Maybe there's a place like that in your area.

I would sell them on ebay in a big lot or in a few big lots if they are all in the same genre or by the same author, etc. Just start the bidding at like 9.99 and see what happens...see how much they weigh and ship media mail. I do this a lot and you can make surprising amounts. If not, you still will get rid of them and have some money to show for it. I don't think romances are the most popular genre but if there are that many you never know.

PS. Plus it would be so much easier than trying to list 4 boxes of books separately...believe me on that!

I second a PP's suggestion of Half.com - it's owned by eBay, so if you have an eBay account you can sell on Half.com. There are no listing fees and they give you a shipping reimbursement which is usually enough to cover media mail; they just take a % of the sale price as commission. Amazon has a similar set up, but I've found their commissions to be higher so I usually try Half.com first. If the item sits on there for a while & doesn't sell, then I'll try listing it on Amazon.

Also in my experience used book stores that buy books won't give you much at all for paperbacks. You'll get more money selling them on Half.com, Amazon, or eBay.

I have purchased my used books from Amazon, eBay, and a local used book store. The book store also gives me a store credit for any books I bring in.

I'm going to second both HalfPrice Books and Half.com

I only use them to sell my used books/cds/dvds and magazines. It's not a fortune you'll get, but at least they'll find a new home.

If they're paperback romances, the local library may or may not want them, so please ask before you donate.

Going to check out Half.com.

Had a mini crisis this week. My TV quit on me. No reason, mom just said it cut off. It was expected the TV is almost 10 yrs old.

Thanx again everyone!
