have any fellow DVC ers been to DL, is it me or does it seem like a whole different ball game out there?

waiting in line for the park to open?

any tips would be great.

thanks

We just joined DVC, but I basically grew up at DL. I even worked there for 2 summers. DL is obviously smaller than WDW, but it does have that magical quality because it is the original park, Walt's baby.
I agree it is a "different ball game" - there are too many things to list here that I like better at DL vs WDW, and vice versa. As for waiting in line for the park to open - I have wonderful memories of getting up early with my dad and getting there for the rope drop, then making a mad dash for the Matterhorn! But that probably isn't necessary for most families, especially now that they have Fast Pass
Depending on the time of year you go - one day in each park is plenty in the off season. It is not like WDW where there is easily a week's worth of stuff to do. Of course, it is southern California, and there is definitely a lot else to do in the area! :cool1:

DL is a wonderful place. We went twice in 2006, once for the Half Marathon. There are many differences, like not being able to have your tickets on your room ID, not being able to charge to your room using your room ID, checking in before 3PM just related to the DLR hotels. Nicest difference is being able to just walk everywhere from your hotel. We hope that we'll be able to use our points at GCV in the future when they open up.

We love DL because there is an intimacy and a charm that is lacking at the Magic Kingdom at WDW. You can feel Walt's love and attention to detail.

One tip: do not, under any circumstances, attempt to take a beverage on the monorail. They don't allow food or drink. Which I found out the hard way, early one morning, when I had to cool my heels and finish my coffee elsewhere. :guilty:

There's a great Unofficial Guide for DL, put out by the same folks who do the one for WDW. Get it. It's got great advice. :woohoo:

Don't forget the DL Board on the DIS. Lots of good information there, too.

One thing I found extremely different is how everything in the Magic Kingdom at DL is much closer to each other. It may take 10 minutes at WDW to walk but at DL about 5 or less. It totally threw off my plan, for the better.
