Forgive me: I posted this at the end of the PIN thread. But I'm afraid it will get buried there, so here goes again:

- We booked last August for next August, 6 nights at the Contemporary

-On Tuesday, when I got home from work, THE postcard was waiting for me, complete with "40% off on a moderate, call for other offers."

- At 4:30 pm (in other words, immediately) I called our AAA agent and had him inquire. He got back to me 20 minutes later with 3 options:
a) Keep our existing Contemporary ressies
b) Switch to the Grand Floridian and save $200
c) Switch to the Poly and save $450
I left at 5:10 to take my daughter to Speech therapy.

- At 7:30 I emailed my AAA agent, asking him to take the Poly. The office was closed for the day.

- Weds: Right after my first class (9:10 am) I call AAA-- my agent isn't working on Wednesday.

-Thursday: Again, right after my first class( 9;10 am) I call AAA and confirm that I want him to change to the Poly.

- 6:00 pm. I arrive home (from school then speech)to find an email from my agent: He called right after getting off the phone with me this morning. The code rooms at the Poly are all booked up; he can't get me one.

- 6:10: I call Disney. They can't access my ressie; the agent has to authorize them to do it, not me. But it's conceivable that all the Poly rooms under the code have been taken. Since I still have ressies at the Contemporary, they should be able to discount the rooms I originally booked.

6:20pm: I e mail AAA. I tell him what the CM told me, and authorize him to make any of the following changes to my ressie:
a) Poly, $450 cheaper
b) Contemporay, 40% off (or anything close)
c) Grand Floriian, $200 cheaper
d) upgrade at Contemporary, as long as it doesn't cost more.

Does this sound legit to you?? 40 hours passed between the time I got the code and the time the AAA agent tried to use it, and now it's no good????

I know how rare these codes are, but is their shelf life honestly that short??

You guys know your stuff-- what do I do if tomorrow's response is "sorry, there's nothing we can do"????

Remember - the code may in fact be sold out for your dates at that resort. In fact, the code may not be offered at SOME resorts on some dates.. at ALL!

That IS possible.

That said .. this is why I hate having an existing reservation thru CAA/AAA... the resopnse time can kill you and they really don't understand the urgency of these offers and how much a timely response matters.

ACK... but what do I DO?

I had to book through AAA if I wanted DDP and the AAA discount.

How about you call disney for a new reservation yourself, if you can get in the resort you want just cancel the other reservations?? Can you do that??

I was able to use my 40% off code (room only) and still get the DDP.

I asked this question myself on here, and every answer I got was yes... yes you can get the DDP and use the code on the room.

Just wanted to add either way your going to loose the AAA discount, you'll have a CHOICE between AAA or 40% off you can't get both, but you CAN get the DDP with the 40% off code

Yup we used the 40% off and still got the dining plan. I called immediately after I code the code several weeks ago and there were not too many choices for rooms for our dates. We ended up getting the room we wanted but we are going a week and a half later then expected. Much closer to christmas then we wanted. But you take the good with the bad. Can you play with your dates at all?? Not all our days fell within the weeks specified and we got the 40% off the entire 2 and 1/2 week trip. Just a thought maybe there are better rooms for different days. But I do know they only allow so many in each catagory to be booked under the code. Good luck.

On your advice, I called Disney last night. I tried booking a new package with the code... and it worked.

I hate to cheat my AAA agent out of a comission. So I'll call him once again at 9:10 am and fill him in. (I already sent him an email, but I want to talk to him.)

If he can't get the same package, I'll book it myself at lunch and cancel the AAA package. I'm guessing it would cost me the $119 nonrefundable insurance, but it's still a better deal.

Thanks to one and all... next installment tonight!!

If you cancel with AAA I would! Take control over your ressie yourself-- you'll be happy you did!

In the meantime, call and put a hold on a the room with disney, they will give you two weeks before you have to pay the deposit or it cancels off, in the meantime you can get ahold of your AAA agent and cancel or have them figure it out.

Either way I would not lose out on any money and explain to them that the reason you want to cancel is poor turn around time.

It is possible that certain resorts are booked up (for the code offer-- they only allot so many rooms with the code) but keep trying, people cancel or don't put deposits down too!

Even once you have something booked with Disney you can call and keep checking for other resort openings...

And you can opt for the package with DDP too (you don't get 40% off the package, jsut the room rate).

Good luck. And congrats on getting a pin code!

After a day of phone tag (Travel agent in meetings, full day in classes for me plus chaperoning a Freshman Dance) I arrived home to an email-- everything is booked at the 40% off price.

I'm one happy mom:cool1:
