I'm having a yard sale tomorrow (I know, 6 days before we leave, I'm nuts!) Hoping to raise a little extra cash for the trip. I'm stumped on pricing a few nicer items that I will be selling. Where would you put the asking price for these:

-Like new, Century Smart Fit infant carseat. Sells in stores for $60. Perfect working order. 3 yrs old, but only used for 11 months.
-Good condition, Century baby walker. Nothing broken, faded or torn. Has detachable over-head hanging toy thingy.

I would say $10 for the carseat and $10 for the walker. I don't think people will pay much more than that a garage sale. I know I wouldn't.

I'm a yard/garage/estate sale fanatic! I went to 3 today. I have a tendency to check 3 or 4 items to see if they're sensibly priced and if they're not, I usually just leave! :teeth:

I agree with summerrluvv, $10 is reasonable, but tack on a few more bucks for haggling.

I got $20.00 for each of my car seats (like new and clean) and $10.00 for the booster. I also had an Exersaucer I sold for $15.00.

Wow! $20!!! If I got that I'd be jumping up and down (after the buyer drove off, of course;) )

Maybe I'll set it at $20 and come down to $15 after the first 2 hours of the sale. Knowing how much they are in the stores, I'd pay $15, even $20 for a like new carseat.

Am I the only sentimental fool here or do any of you also get melancholoy when selling your baby things? I look at that carseat and remember how excited I was when I first got it, knowing my DD would be coming home from the hospital in it!

I still can't get rid of my 2 year olds infant clothing. I keep telling my husband that it is our birth control method, because every time I get rid of all the baby stuff I get pregnant!

YES, I hated seeing some of my baby stuff go, so I priced it high!!!! Can NOT sell the crib (it has her teeth marks on it) or Toddler bed or glider swing! Plus some of her clothes I have kept in a box. I put $5.00 on a $12.00 stroller we bought for WDW last year and planned to throw away afterward if it didn't last, and it sold...kind of sad about that too!!!! Baby stuff flies out the door around here.

Well, h
ardly any of my baby items sold......is someone trying to tell me something????;)

So I lugged the stuff back up to the attic and will try again next year. The carseat and walker are really in very good condition and I know the right person will come along who would appreciate that. The people who want to buy a carseat for $5. would be OK with using something that is beat up and I won't give them my beautiful carseat for a measly $5!!

Thanks, everyone, for your replies!:)

Do you have a resale or consignment store nearby? The problem with waiting another year to sell the carseat is that I believe the "useful life" of a carseat as recommended by the manufacturer is around 5-7 years. The time would be specified in your user's manual. I have a Century Smartfit infant seat and I think the manufacturer recommends it only be used 5 years after the manufacture date. It doesn't matter if it was only used 1 year, but if it is 5 years old, it is possible that the components have worn down over time even though it may look new and it may not protect a baby in an accident. My seat is also in great condition but since it is either close to or past it's useful life I'm thinking of either donating it to a program that educates people in car seat safety (to be used as a prop) or maybe a child would want to play with it with their dolls. My infant seat only has a 3-point harness and I know that people prefer to use 5-point harnesses these days for more protection. Anyhow, I would encourage you to try a resale or consignment shop. The consignment shop I used to go to prices infant seats around $25-$39 and you would get half of that. I got tired of waiting for money after the consignment period and also having to go back to pick up items if they didn't sell, so now I go to a resale shop that will pay upfront in cash or store credit, 40% of selling price in cash or 60% in store credit. Good luck!

I agree with Madelyn, try a resale store. I just had a garage sale for the same reason as you, extra cash for WDW. It was very, very difficult to see my baby's stuff go but unbelievable how cheap people are. I had a brand new pack n' play that I never used w/ a changing table that layed across and someone wanted it for $15. NO WAY! I sold it for $30 and even that made me cringe. Some of my other stuff: walker in great condition didn't sell. I took it to a resale shop in my area. They gave me $35 for the walker and a few outfits in good condition. The money was upfront and I didn't have to haggle about the price. Well whatever you decide, Good Luck!
