I have owned for a little over a year, but I get myself turned around backwards trying to figure out banking and borrowing. Can someone help me??
I will want to book a week (give or take night) for March of 2021. I am currently buying another contract that has 42 points (SSR) with Aug UY and all 2019 points available.
So at the 11 month mark (May 2020), will I be able to combine 2019 banked points, 2020 point and 2021 borrowed points to book for March 2021?
Thanks in advance to all you DVC vets.

I also have Aug UY. So you bank the Aug 2019 into 2020. They are usable for trips from AUg 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021. Borrowing the Aug 2021 points into 2020 means they are also usable from Aug 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021. And you have the Aug 2020 to use by July 31, 2021 as well. So, yes, the 3 years of points will work for March 2021. You have to bank the 2019 points by March 31, 2020.

That's what I thought, but my brain kept talking me out of it. lol.
Thanks so much for ending my craziness.

BUT... will the 2021 points be able to be borrowed as early as May 2020 to take advantage of the 11 month booking window? See I'm talking myself in circles again.

It is tough. And I have 2 UY and 8 contracts between them to manage. It can be a nightmare sometimes. MAke a chart and be sure to write if you used borrowed points or banked or regular. And if your other contract is a different UY and you intend to transfer points, keep track of that especially because they don't show up online. Congrats on the new contract (I LOVE SSR).

Yes. You should bank the 2019 as soon as you have access to the contract. As long as you are sure you won't use them Aug 2019 to July 2020. Then when you go to book at 11 months, book online and it will walk you through borrowing the points needed.

My other contract is AKL Dec UY. I'm in trouble. It's ok. I will have fun keeping it straight along the way. Eventually I will be an expert.

Spend some time with the Understanding Use Year thread. Then make yourself the charts for each use year you own.

Soon you will find use years less confusing, but when you confuse yourself (and we all do it, LOL), break out the charts. It helps!

Just an FYI: If you’re booking for March 2021, the 11-month window opens in April 2020, not May. The only exception would be if the first night of the reservation falls on March 31, 2021. In which case, since there is no April 31, your 11-month booking window would open on May 1, 2020.

Perfect. Thanks again

I'd also suggest you never transfer points between the 2 memberships. Just alternate booking with each. Transferred points between your 2 UY will not show up online. You will have to call MS when booking or modifying. I recently had transferred my points from one to other and had to call to book, then call to cancel, then remember I had them and had to call in to book a new resie and then call in to modify that resie. Uggghhhh...wish I never transferred them. And new resie is 1 point less than what I had transferred so that 1 point will go to waste. I will NEVER transfer again. I only did because we listed a contract for sale that was loaded and the brokers would not ask buyers to pay back the 2018 annual dues to me. So I didn't want them getting 'free' 2018 points. I transferred, booked, cancelled, banked them and rebooked and modified. Ugghhh. Still not sure of the dates I booked with them but am tired of calling MS as they tend to not know how to deal with the transfer points and I get put on hold forever and they have to ask their manager to help and all that jazz. So NEVER again.

You cannot borrow transferred points. You cannot transfer banked or borrowed points. Did you plan on combining the points from both of your UY to make the reservation?

That's good to know. I can work within the rules as long as I know them ahead of time. Thanks for this.
So really you can only transfer current years points for a reservation you are making right then... and hope that you don't have to cancel. Pretty much???

You can then bank the transferred points. But most CMs don't know. I got on once who swore you couldn't. It was June UY and I was trying to book a June trip in the following UY as my 2 DDs were graduating in May and we were moving out of state just a couple days after graduation. So I needed to bank the transfer points to book early June. She claimed I could not bank them. I looked at rules on DVC site and read them to her and she also pulled up the rules and replied that we could bank so she gave it a try and said it didn't work so there must be a reason why I could not bank them. She tried to say my SIL transferred me banked points (but you can't do that). I gave up and booked end of May trip (memorial weekend...so higher flight costs, more crowds and too soon after graduation and move...that CM really messed me up and I should have hung up with her and called back).

Good information. It must be frustrating when you know more than the cast member.
