I know its not Orlando, but was hoping you all could give me some advice. We have a week through RCI that is from my boss and I am trying to plan something for next April's spring break. We have looked at what's available (not a lot) and can go to Williamsburg at either the Wyndham Patriot's Place or the Historic Powhatan Resort. I was hoping someone may know about either or both and have some words of wisdom. We have never stayed at a timeshare before and there are mixed reviews on both resorts so I am not sure what we should do.

Thanks for any help...

I booked a client into Patriot's Place last June and it was "tolerable" but she said the bathroom was disgusting. Their unit really needed renovating. I believe they've been working on it but just be aware some of the units are in need of revamping. I've heard better things about Powhatan but I don't have any first-hand experience with either.

Well i've stayed at both so I may be of some help. Patriot's Place is small and the oldest of the two. It was ok but nothing notable. It is closer to the historic attractions though. Powhatan Plantation is ok too. We own there (whereas my parents own Patriot's Place) and the condos that have been renovated are very nice and the resort is much bigger and has more amenities than Patriot's Place. The only bonus to Patriot's place is that you have the opportunity to go and use the amenities at the two other Wyndham resorts, Governor's Green and Kinsgate and both are much nicer. Governor's Green is great. So if you didn't mind driving to another resort to use the pool and mini-golf etc. then it may be a better option factoring in location. But if I ultimately had my choice I would choose Powhatan Plantation. HTH!

We stayed at a 4BR lockoff at Powhatan Plantation in October of 2006 and loved it. We are from VA, hubby from W'burg, but brother flew in from Cali and we all wanted to stay together and this was a great fit for us. Gave us tons of space, two kitchens. We loved it and I would recommend it.

Thank you so much for the great information. I love these boards-- replies less than 30 minutes after posting:thumbsup2 I think that we are going to try the Patriots Place because they are supposed to be starting the last phase of renoations in the fall with an expected completion date of March 2009. If that actually happens then we should be in a renovated unit without having to hope we get lucky. It just looked like the non-renovated units were really dicey at best. When I called Powhatan they said only about half of their units have been renovated and they had no idea when the rest would be done. I am still very torn between the two since the resort itself looks better at Powhatan, but we can drive over to the other Wyndham resorts for their cool stuff and I really want a renovated unit, but, but....... I really should just leave it alone now, but I'm sure I'll keep obsessing just like I did trying to pick the perfect place in Windsor Hills.

Thanks so much again for all of your help.

We've stayed at Powhatan and Kingsgate. Powhatan used to be very good but has lost it's GOld Crown rating on RCI. We haven't stayed there in a few years but hear that it's not that great these days.

Kingsgate is very nice and they have just renovated most of the units. My kids love the arcade and so do we as it's $5.00 a day and the games are free.

I did get our stay arranged. We will be in a 2 bedroom lockoff that sleeps 8 (2Q and 2Q sleepers) at Wyndham Patriots Place. The resort should be completely renovated by then so the unit should be nice except for noise from neighbors (the biggest complaint on most reviews I have read). We decided that we would rather have the renovated unit and drive over to Kingsgate to use the pools, mini-golf, and the arcade room. The location and the fact that the resort is smaller were also big factors in the decision.

I really appreciate everyone's help and would love to see a floorplan for this type unit if anyone has one.

Unless you really want to use the arcade room, I would use the facilities at Govenor's Green. The pool is nicer, and Kingsgate charges $5/day/unit to use their facilities (even when staying on their property). It's the only Wyndham resort I know of that has a fee.

Of course with kids $5/day/unit for an arcade room that does not require quarters can be a very good deal.

We were just at Kingsgate a few months ago. Nice, but I had two main gripes. The newly renovated rooms have no jacuzzi tub (they took them out). The arcade is great, but we found about 30% of the games were broken - and of course, the broken ones were what my kids considered the better games. Also, some of the games are very viloent so you will want to supervise young ones.
