I need some advice. First I am looking at buying around 100 points resale with the idea of staying on property every other year or every third year. SSR is the most economical choice that I see. I know I have read here to buy where you will stay but we like to stay in different resorts and don't usually plan our vacation 11 months ahead. So I am leaning to SSR but I really want to stay at BCV (for around 5-6 nights 2BR) for our 20th year anniversary which is Jan 4th 2012. Can you experienced DVCers tell me is my only chance of getting it is to buy there?
Also we usually vacation in March but have gone in Jan and Feb. We are very flexible as far as vacation dates except for this one.

Thanks!!

if you can't make your reservation before 8 months - then it does NOT matter which home resort you have.

7th month and later are open to all DVC members.

your date in Jan falls between holidays - so would say you have a good chance of getting it w/o buying at BCV.

new year is before, MLK's week is after.

besides SSR would also look at OKW. it was sold for less money (on the whole) so it might be a better buy.

Outside of absolute peak times - December and Easter Break; certain "rare" room types - Grand Villas, Standard/Value rooms etc - you can usually get the resort you want at the 7 month mark.

You are very likely to be able to book BCV 2BR during non-holiday January at the 7 month mark. But it's not guaranteed, and your odds are better if you own there and can buy at the 11-month mark. If you absolutely must stay at the Beach Club that trip and nothing else will make you happy, buy at the Beach Club. Otherwise, buying at SSR makes a lot of sense.

Jan points are low & the rooms book up fairly fast overall. I'm not sure how popular BCV is in Jan though - need some experts on that.

Personally, Since you have the flexibility for other vacations, I'd buy the SSR (which both the main resort as well as the THV are beautiful unto themselves) and rent/transfer in those Jan points for the ones you need so you have the 11mo booking window for BCV.

:thumbsup2 You could always get a THV if you own at SSR--that would be only available (from what I hear) at your 11 mo. I think that would be nice for a one time trip.

in Jan generally it is kind of cold to go swimming (although yes people to do) and to my knowledge nothing special is going on at Epcot.

so would say that BCV during Jan (w/o holidays) would be a good choice if you don't own there.

my opinion.

Mine too! I "save" our BCV points for warmer weather. I think you'll be OK at 7 months.

Thanks for all your insights. Looks like I will be looking for points at SSR or OKW.
Hopefully our one special trip will happen with BCV but anywhere will be magical. We stayed there on our honeymoon and it would be a great present to stay there. It just is scary to buy points and have to confidence we can use them at places other than the home resort. We will definitely be planning vacations at least 7 months out from then on and hopefully with our flexible dates we will enjoy being owners.

We've owned for 5 years and have taken close to 20 trips. I travel June, spring break, week before Christmas, and October. We've stayed in every resort except BLT (staying there end of May). I've never not gotten the reservation I want. If I bought more points today, I'd buy SSR points.

Assuming DVC does make sense for you, SSR or an extended OKW will be the best value based on what you've posted. It doesn't sound like you'd get any value out of owning elsewhere. You can save enough on a resale to pay cash for the BCV trip if need be. I'd just buy the best option overall, make a reservation at 11 months then try day 1 for 7 months out for the 20th Anniversary option.

I too think you'll probably get the BCV reservation at 7 months but another option would be buy the SSR or OKW resale and then look for a BCV owner to transfer points in for this one special trip to get the 11 month booking window.
