Hi there,
We have been to WDW many times and love it. I am not new to the board as my avi indicates as I managed to forget my username/password so started again! We generally stay at a timeshare resort that we can get for a great price through friends. However, this year we are planning a last minute trip, probably around may 23 (I know it is Memorial Day in the US, but it is go then or not go :(), and given the holiday we are unable to get our usual time share deal. We are a large family (five kids) and as such, staying on property would be killer expensive. We are looking for a VRBO and see lots of options-too many options. We don't know where to start. So, was wondering if any of you fantastic folks could give us some great advice as to where to get a great 4 bedroom (could be 3 too, but if we are doing a house might as well be 4 as we may bring my mom). We were looking at Kissimmee but there are so many options-central, central west etc. Any advice on what area or even what complex? As far as price, I am always looking for a good deal, but not interest in dirt cheap in favor of amenities and comfort, so ruling out the $500-$600/week places. Thank you!!

For the shortest commute to the parks and the closest proximity to shops and restaurants on 192, I would suggest sticking with Kissimmee West. Formosa Gardens, Windsor Hills, Acadia Estates, etc.

Have only stayed at Windsor Hills, so take it for what it's worth... This next trip I did consider trying another location, but after looking through a bunch of listings, I came back to Windsor Hills. I don't think I want to stay anywhere else. They have condos, 3 bedroom townhouses, and larger (regular) houses. Great resort! :goodvibes

We have also stayed at Windsor Hills but this last time we stayed at Acadia Estates, it is a bit closer to WDW and sooooo much quieter, I don't think we will go back to WH.
Acadia Estates does not have a community pool but we have never used the one at WH because we have one in the back yard.
The villa we stayed at was very upscale, but still cheaper than WH for the same size, it may be too big for your group but here is the link anyways.

Have a great trip!

We like the western end of 192. It's close to the AK side of Disney and there's lots of restaurants within 10 minutes. You can try vrbo and homeaway (for Kissimmee or Disney area) for rentals. Emerald Island and Windsor Palms are similar to WH. Some like Windsor Hills have their own listing sites: windsorhillsrent.com We like Indian Creek also although it doesn't have the community pool or clubhouse. There's quite a few homes that have been recently bought and refurnished.
Here's a map to show you where things are. WH is #1 and the rest are the blue markers to the left are others in the area. Disney has pink markers.

With vrbo and homeaway you contact the owners directly. On the WH site you can put in an inquiry that goes to all but be specific or you may get more replies than you want.
You can also use an agency like floridasunvacationhomes.com or allstarvacationhomes.com but they tend to be more expensive.

We rented a house in Emerald Island last year. It had a pool and rec room for the kids and was an easy drive, everyone was happy with it.
