I'm very new at using Message Boards and I have a few questions ......
How do I get my location listed under my user name ? Why am I a Welcomed Guest ? How do I become a DIS veteran ? And how can I get a funky picture as my signature ? I've noticed that people "sign" their messages with a list of where they've stayed at Disney. Do you type that in each time or is it an automatic signature ?

Bryn & Hubby :
1996 - honeymoon Dixie Landings
1998 - Swan (conference)
2000 - Disney Wonder 4 day cruise
2002 - time share offsite (Gulp - first time with the kids!!)

If I would like to "speak" to a specific person, is there a way to do that ?

Hi Bryn, and welcome to the DIS!!!

I'll try to answer as many of your questions as I can. :)

To get your location listed under your username, click on "User CP" at the top of the page, and then click on "Edit Profile" and scroll down to the text box that says "Location" (near the bottom of the page) and type in what you would like, then click "Submit Modifications."

You become a "DIS Veteran" rather than a "welcomed guest" when you have 75 posts. If you want to change this to soemthing else you can do this while you're editing your profile (as above) but enter what you would like in the box beside "custom user text." I don't think that you can do this change manually until you have 30 posts and/or (I'm not sure which) have been here for 30 days, but you can make a post on the Tech Board for a moderator to change your title for you. (The tech board is great with answering any clipart and other technical questions also.) Otherwise, you will automatically become a DIS Vet when you reach your 75th post.

To put the list of your vacations in your signature automatically, you do this in sort of the same way that you enter your "location." Go to "User CP" and then "Edit Profile" and then scroll down to the text box beside "Signature" and enter whatever you would like at the bottom of each of your posts (i.e. the list of where your vactions for example) in this box, and then click "submit modifications."

To add a picture (clipart) the the bottom of each of your posts, you do this in much the same way as you add the list of your vacations. The only thing different is that you'll need to put the image code there instead of just text. And of course, you can have both an image and text too if you would like. Here is a link to a great thread that will help you get started on clipart. Clipart Help Link. On this Clipart Help Link, the second link down called "Dan Murphy's Clipart Primer" is a good place to start. Once you pick out clipart that you would like to add to each post and add the image tags around it's URL as described in Dan's clipart post, you add this piece of code to your "Signature" box as described above and it should then show up on every post that you make.

You can send a message to a specific person by sending them a private message (PM). The easiest way to do this is to find a post that the person you would like to talk to has made and then click on the button called "pm" at the bottom of their post.

I hope that this answers all your questions. :)

Thanks so much for the information !

One more question, if you don't mind.........how do you get the smileys to appear in the middle of a message ?

You're welcome, feel free to ask if you have any other questions and either I or someone else around here I'm sure will do our best to try to answer. :)

To answer you smilie question: In order to put the smilies in your message, when you are writing your message there is a box on the left with smilies in it... you can simply click on the smilie you want inserted where you want it placed. (It will show up as just "text" and when you submit your reply it will change into an actual smilie, : wave : (without the spaces) makes  and so on.) You can also click the "get more" button to see a few more smilies.

Also, after you try out the standard smilies, you may also want to take a look at Spottie's Super Stupendous Smilie Station and then click on either "Mouse Ears" or "Page 1" or "Page 2" for <b>many</b> more smilie choices!

To use the smilies there all you do is click the smilie you want, then copy the code from the line at the bottom of the page and paste that code into your message here!
