Ok we only have one day to do both parks. We will be there on a Thursday Sept. 8th. US closes at 6:00 and IOA at 7:00. We are 2 adults and a 9 year. We want to try to go on all the major attractions. Would it be best to go to US first then IOA or the other way around. Which park first and any advice on what to do and when ?

i suggest you read some of the trip reports in the other forum on this site.

you can see how it has been for other families.

it has a wealth of information!

if you do a search, you can go back and see how older threads regarding touring in september or for a one day adventure.

most like to do ioa first for potter.
studios has rides that have staggering start up times.

hth!

Many of the attractions at Universal Studios won't open until later in the day, especially in September, so I would suggest starting at IOA. If you're interested in Harry Potter, head straight back to the Wizarding World and get in line for Forbidden Journey right away. After that take some time to explore the Wizarding World. Then you can work around through Jurassic Park, Toon Lagoon and Superhero Island. If there's anything you want to do in Seuss Landing you can hit that up before you head out.

By the time you get to Universal Studios everything should be open and you can work your way around in either direction and make a full lap of the park. If you have some extra time at the end of the day you can easily head back to IOA again if there's something you want to do again.

some of the rides open one hour after opening.
this isn't really anything that should deter you from starting at the studios.

usually it is only about 3 of them that have the delayed opening.

all other rides open as usual.

the shows have staggering times.

they usually have performances before noon each day.
