5 weeks to go (well almost) and now the serious planning begins. Thing is, we've got four kids and on previous trips it has always been a case of grab what you can when you can in whatever park you happen to be in. This year is going to be different, the kids are older and we intend to relax a lot more and enjoy some nice things to eat along with some good shopping and (fingers crossed) wonderfully hot weather. Anyway... we've sat down to make a list of places where we've always wanted to eat... and have come up with very little. We've done the whole Planet Hollywood thing and don't want to do that again and we've also visited Ming Court and... well it was okay but we'd like to try somewhere else. So if you have had a great dining experience recently, we'd be really grateful of the heads-up. Food-wise, we eat pretty much anything although the wife doesn't like curry... not that I'd be looking for a curry in Orlando in July! We could check out the dining guide but what we're really looking for is personal recommendations. TIA. :cool1:

Rainforest Cafe?

Give some thought to the numerous locations across the WDW resort. Not only are they some fab places, you get to see the resorts and still experience some of the magic whilst relaxing. You can view tons of details (including menus) over at www.allearsnet.com :mickeybar

We had our first trip to Orlando in April:cool1:

I highly recommend Concourse Steakhouse, where we escaped to when we visited Magic Kingdom. The food was very good, service excellent and it was a nice break before we headed back for Wishes.

My family also really enjoyed the Hollywood and Vine buffet which we did as part of the Fantasmic Dinner package at MGM. The food was really fresh and there was plenty of choice. Also doing the package means no waiting in line for Fantasmic.

Mythos at Islands of Adventure was our favourite of the Theme Park Restaurants. The Steak sandwich was delicious as was the virgin pina colada. It is a very upmarket place with down to earth prices.

Don't miss Perkins all day breakfast if you're having a rest day - my DH couldn't get over what a great deal their food is.:goodvibes

Happy eating!

Dine with Shamu - is fantastic, but its if you can get in, try pre-booking.
Boma - in Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Mythos - Try 'potion of the gods' to die for!
Sci Fi diner at MGM's
50's Prime Time Cafe at MGM's
Hardrock Cafe - Universal
These were my favourite!

Try Sci Fi diner in MGM, book ahead to get one of the drive in cars, its a unique setting.
Race Rock on I Drive was one of our favourites, good food, great setting with car and bike racing on tvs around you, along with real cars, bikes and trucks hanging from the ceilings and walls! There are some arcade driving games but don't panic, you put dollar bills into a token machine and get quite a few tokens for not many dollars.
For something a bit more expensive but very unusual Sharks underwater grill in Seaworld - think about it before you order fish!!
We also enjoyed the restaurants in the WS at Epcot, so many different styles to choose from.

Are you looking for recommendations inside the parks, inside the WDW resorts or all over the Orlando area?

One thing I would want to underline STRONGLY is that if there are things you want to try out at either the WDW themeparks or the WDW resorts is to make sure you get some priority seatings ( or advance reservations as they are now calling them) ahead of time. I'm going to start a thread on this topic, but I wanted to mention it here as well. I've had the opportunity to listen in to some of the calls into the Reservation System this week and I've lost count of the number of people who have gone off line frustrated because they can't find a vacant time at a restaurant they want to eat at for that evening. This is a REALLY busy time with the start of the 50 years aniversary and it is going to remain busy all summer/year. Not only are hotel occupancy %ages up, but a lot of Florida locals are making extra trips to the parks because of all the new rides, shows and attractions. If you want to have the chance to have a really nice sit down meal I can't stress enough you are going to find it MUCH easier if you are able to plan ahead and make bookings. For anything special (like character meals (particularly Princess dinners or Cinder's castle), dinner shows or Cirque) it's a really good idea to call AS SOON AS YOU CAN to make a reservation, for fine dining you don't need to call 90 days out (unless you have a specific location/themepark in mind) if you have some flexibility in your itinerary, but it's a good idea to call 3-4 weeks ahead of your visit to get at least some of your dining plans sorted out. As an after thought this is particularly the case if your group is outside of 3-4 people, the majority of tables in the restaurants are tables for 4, they have some for 6 or 8 and in some ( BUT NOT ALL) locations they can be combined. If your group differs from 3-4 people, you want to be seated at the same table, you want to eat at "regular" meal times and you're planning on leaving it until a couple of days before you'd want to sit down you'd better hope your VERY LUCKY.

I would strongly recommend anyone thinking of having something to eat at MGM and watching Fantasmic to look into the dinner packages, cost wise it doesn't really cost you more than you'd probably spend anyway (in the case of H+V I believe it's the same cost as just going in and eating there) and you have the benefit of guaranteed seats at Fantasmic AND you don't have to wait 90-120 minutes in a queue for those seats. IMHO it's a "no brainer"

It's a busy time, plan plan plan people :drinking1 :hourglass

P.S. I think the Ming Court has closed down and/or been taken over by a Japanese restaurant recently.

I'm going to play my joker on answering dining questions so ask away with what you're looking for :D

Hi Vernon

Just replied to your other post then noticed this one where you offered to answer any dining questions - no doubt you'll be bombarded with questions so here's mine.....

OK, I am a planner and I want to try and secure as many PSs or reservations as possible. DD :earsgirl: and DS :earsboy: hate waiting about for tables. Anyway I'm happy with what I have in the Disney resort and I have also booked Dine with Shamu. BUT What should I do in Universal and IoA? Also any recommendations for International Drive?

Thanx

US + IOA have some excellent choices. The citywalk area has one of my favourite "casual dining" restaurants in Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. In the parks IOA has both Mythos and Confisco's , either offer good food. Universal doesn't fair so well on the "fine dining" stakes , but Lombard's seafood grill is not too bad.
Other excellent choices at USF would be Emeril's at Citywalk or Tchoupchop ( owned by Emeril) at the Pacific Royal resort both are TOP level restaurants, Trattoria del Porto at the Portifino bay offers a great Italian buffet style meal as well as a good "a la carte" menu , another choice at Portifino bay would be Bice Ristorante .

On I-Drive you'll find pretty much something good for every budget. Going from Olive Garden (decent Italian at a great price) up to fine dining locations in many of the hotels.
Here are a couple of interesting places to consider

Other good places are Fishbones, Charley's steakhouse, Vito's chop house and Bahama Breeze.
