How did I ever pass third grade. :sad2:

Revise each question to make it a statement.

Were women treated poorly in jails then?
Answer
- Women were treated poorly in jails then.
- Then, women were treated poorly in jails.

Is either one correct?
:confused3

The first one is correct. There isn't anything wrong with the second one, but it would have to follow something since it's sequential. For example:

Women were arrested under false circumstances. Then, women were treated poorly in jails.

He has to put "then" in, correct? It just sound weird to me. :confused3

"Women were treated poorly in jails." sounds better.

Here's another one

5 + 3 x 6 = ?

If there are no parenthesis (sp?) around any of it, you do the calculations in order. In this case, 5+3=8, 8X6 = 48

If it looked like 5 + (3 x 6) = ?, it would be 5 + 18 = 23

I think.... it's been a few years :)

Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally

Parantheses Exponents Multiplication & Division Addition & Subtraction

So the answer is 23.

Ding ding ding! :cool1: You are correct! It is tricky though, isn't it? I have told him the wrong answers before you know. :scared:

It doesn't matter if there are no parantheses, multiplication always comes before addition. If the addition were in parantheses, then it would come before the multiplication.

Yes - multiplication before addition. The answer is 23.

Of course the teacher(forhi) is right!! ;)

I'm just glad I remember. I just started back to work today and the kids don't come back for a week. It's been a while since I've thought about anything educational. :)

I'm just glad I read this thread. I learned something. God help me...

Pete's supposed to remember it. He has much less brain space taken up by things like where is the car parked & is the milk expired :rotfl2:
They will probably beat it to death in class so if he is remotely concious, he'll be fine.
