Help with the most EXPENSIVE airport in the US..Cincinnati!

I hope someone can help with our delima! Normaly we drive to WDW..This year we are flying down December 13-17th from Cincinnati. CVG, the Delta hub, is very expensive to fly out of (around 270 per ticket) but December weather has us afraid to travel to less expensive airports..Dayton, Columbus or Louisville. So I ask..Do I wait and keep a vigil for a good deal..or do I book early, hoping to beat any price increases. Also, I got a better price on Disney's website than I did on Delta's??? And last..does AAA offer discounts on air travel. Any help would be wonderful!

I would consider Dayton, it is only a 1 hour drive. Many times the flight from Dayton is half cost compared to CVG and a lot of those flights stop in CVG.

Guess again when you say Delta is cheaper from Louisville (SDF). It isn't. We flew out of CVG last December because it was SO much cheaper. We paid $187 rt each flying direct CVG to MCO. SDF was way higher. $583 for the 3 of us vs. around $900 from SDF.

I've also been pricing flights for our upcoming October trip and again SDF is higher than CVG. So we'll see if things drop in the coming months.

We were always able to fly out of SDF much cheaper in the past but CVG has been the cheaper one lately. Go figure.

I don't know how far you are from Indianapolis, but the air fare from IND to MCO can be very reasonable. Three airlines fly non-stop, Airtran, NWA and SWA. Several people I have met on flights out of IND come from Ohio. Keep an eye on IND if you want, through the following link:

http://www.indianapolisairport.com/ Click on About IND then go to our airlines. SWA and Airtran don't have their fares out for Dec. as yet. When all three airlines are available there is a good chance you can get a very good air fare. You just have to keep on top of it. I just flew on NWA from IND to MCO for $117 non-stop, round trip, this included all taxes and fees. The dates were Jan. 28-Feb. 2 and I made the reservations on Dec. 14. In the past I would say you can get a fare of around $150 or less for most dates other than holidays or busy times. I have flown to MCO from IND 2 to 3 times a year since 1992.

The current non-stop r/t flights from IND to MCO is $213 for your dates. This should come way down when SWA and Airtran have fares for your dates.

You can take I-74 to 465 and the airport is just off of 465. Just according to where you live, this could easily be less than a 2 hour drive.

Just another option for you to look at.

I was pricing a ticket between Pittsburgh and Dayton. There are no non-stops. If I flew to Cincinnati and drove to Dayton, the ticket was over $700! If I flew to Cincinnati and connected to the Dayton airport, it was around $300. Go figure! I think it's because there is no competition to Cincinnati but for Dayton there are connections on Northwest through Detroit they are competing with.

We're in Cincinnati too -- looks like it's about $60 cheaper per ticket for Dayton compared to Cincinnati right now.

AAA doesn't offer any discounts... in fact you'll probably be paying them to book it for you, just like everyone pays fees to book from Travelocity and Orbitz and other Internet agencies. The only places you don't pay booking fees are directly from Delta's web site.

Might be time for a reality check. $270 booking today for a non-stop in December isn't a bad fare at all in the current environment. You probably won't start to see any sales until July, or so, for that time period.

As a point of reference, the October flights I want from St. Louis are still priced at $350+ per ticket. I'm holding on until Southwest posts their flights (hopefully sometime in early May) and/or AirTran actually starts working this market and starts running some specials, but I might book a $270 fare if I could get it today.

I have friends that live in Hamilton and Cincinnati and whenever they fly they always drive to Dayton for the cheaper airfares.

Columbus is also cheaper than CVG and not much further than driving to Dayton.

I would try DAY, and they do offer one non-stop flt a day to MCO. I'm lucky enough to live right in the middle of CVG & DAY, so I can pick either.
DAY is a much smaller/easier airport to move around in too! (closer parking and no trains/buses to your gate) I prefer it over CVG. I have found however that every once in a while CVG at lower fares that DAY.
I was watching news the other night and the guy was talking about flight costs, gas, etc. His comment was that if your not saving at least 100.00 per tkt, it's not worth it to drive to another airport. With the cost of gas, your not saving a lot unless you have lots of people travelling with you. Just a thought to consider.

I agree, I think you just have to go with Dayton and leave early if the weather is bad.... there just isn't any way around CVGs prices!
