Help with switching room

i have a question that I'm hoping someone out there will have an answer to.

I have a family member who is currently booked on the same cruise as we are for 2/16. We both have 5E aft cabins booked that are almost next to each other. But, she has a cabin with a larger balcony than we do. She just decided that they are going to cancel their trip.

I want to switch from my cabin to her cabin number for the larger balcony. Do I just call in right when she cancels to snag it? Or, if I give her my reservation number can she ask them to give me her room when she calls to cancel? Does anyone know how quickly the cabin will go back into inventory once she cancels? Could we do a 3 way call?

Any advice would be appreciated.

the big question is, did you or her use a t.a.? if so and it was the same ta then your golden and the ta should be able to do it while shes on the phone with both reservations. if you didn't use a t.a. then it gets trickier. are both reservations linked? I would for sure try a three way call if you can in the case of no t.a. because by the time it is canceled and you call in the room could be gone gone gone. that actually could even happen if you use a ta and she calls in with the two reservations but you have a better chance. you may be able to get the call in agent to just switch the names on the rooms, not sure how that would work though.

We both booked ourselves without a TA. I think I might just call them to see what they say would be the best way to do this.

Yes, to get a definitive answer to that, you would have to contact DCL directly unless you booked through a travel agent, in which case you would contact them.

OP, do the conference call.
Explain what you are wanting to do to the CM before doing anything so that he/she will be able to "see" if what you are asking is even possible or if the CM needs to get a supervisor involved.
