Help with Spyware Please (spy sweeper and aol mcafee)

I hope someone can help.

Dh's computer has spyware problems. We have AOL and AOL has the free security programs (mcAfee). We've run updates and it tells us that we have the istbar on the computer (which apparently makes porn ads pop up). the aol mcafee says this istbar is blocked, but we are still getting the spyware to tell us it exists. SOOOO after doing a search on this board, I noticed a few people here mentioned getting Spy Sweeper. I downloaded that and ran the sweep. It also detected the istbar and 100 other things. It says the istbar is the most "dangerous" though. BUT in order to get spy sweeper to remove it, I have to pay $30 for the subscription.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get my mcafee (via the aol security edition) to rid the computer of this particular spyware (istbar)? I hate to pay $30 for a program that supposedly is similar via aol (mcafee). I'm so frustrated with this spyware. I've been dealing with it for hours now trying to get it to figure it out. Now I just need to get it off my computer.

Have you tried adware or spybot. They are both free dowloads.

I prefer the 'pay for' versions, getting what you pay for, but give this a try.........

use Microsoft's program....it's free, updated daily and is one of the best programs we've found.

Go to Download.com and get a FREE copy of Spybot Seach & Destroy. I just went through a horrible experience a few days ago with spy software and viruses ( I accidentally typed in a wrong URL and got slammed with porn popups). It took me an entire 12 hours to get rid of everything, but Spybot was the most helpful. Afterwards, I purchased and installed Norton Internet Security and Adaware. My computer is now clean and I plan on keeping it that way!!

I use spybot but it did nothing when I was having a problem. I had Norton and it did not get rid of my problem. Dan suggested Panda and it worked like a miracle. I took the 30 day trial and then purchased it. WELL worth it. I also have spysweeper too. The only thing that helped me was Panda.

My friend swears by Panda - another friend swears by spysweeper. He likes Panda but has compatability issues with other programs he runs (he is a big techie)
