Hi Fellow Diser's- My DD is meeting with her coordinator next month to try to plan an October 2009 wedding. We have lots of questions- but some we are most wondering about now are:
1. How does Disney decide your room minimums? Is it based on # of guests, time of year, etc.? Do the guests get room discounts, and if so, what are the discounts, usually?

2. We know through the boards that Lurkyloo is an expert at staying at minimum, but what other advice can you give us? She has been told that the adult minimum is $75 each for food and drink, but it is less for the under 21 and under 9 crowd. Anyone have details about that?

3. What is the friendship boat? When and where might you use it?

Thanks in advance for any info you can offer us.

Hi! :wave2:

1. How does Disney decide your room minimums? Is it based on # of guests, time of year, etc.?

They are based on the number of guests:

1-40 guests: 25 or more room nights
41-75 guests: 50 or more room nights
76 or more guests: 75 or more room nights

Do the guests get room discounts, and if so, what are the discounts, usually?

The discounted room rate is usually about 30% off at the Deluxe Resorts that have convention centers; 15% off at other Deluxe Resorts; a little less than 15% off at Moderate Resorts; and less than 10% off at Value Resorts.

2. We know through the boards that Lurkyloo is an expert at staying at minimum, but what other advice can you give us?

Here is a really great thread with all sorts of cost-cutting ideas:

She has been told that the adult minimum is $75 each for food and drink, but it is less for the under 21 and under 9 crowd. Anyone have details about that?

What this means is that the cost of all food and drink (including cake, liquor, dinner, dessert party food, etc.) on the wedding day must average out to $75 per adult. They only count adults in this because under 21s can't drink alcohol, which accounts for a lot of the per person spending.

3. What is the friendship boat? When and where might you use it?

Friendships are the boats that travel from Future World to World Showcase in Epcot and from the BoardWalk Inn to the Yacht & Beach Club, the Swan & Dolphin, Epcot and Hollywood Studios. We used one to take us and our guests from the ceremony site in Morocco to the reception site at BoardWalk Inn, but you can take it from/to any of the locations I listed.

Hope this helps!

Lurkyloo, you are the best! I spent about 3 hours last night reading through your PJ and it was so helpful! :thumbsup2 My daughter is a Disney nut, and her DF has never even been to Disney! He has been great about agreeing to the wedding of her dreams, though. They are going to WDW Nov. 6 to meet with a coordinator, and choose a place for the wedding and reception. They only have 2 days there, though and she is pretty overwhelmed about seeing everything she needs to see for the wedding and getting DF to really experience Disney.

Two days is enough time! They'll have so much fun, she won't have to worry about DF seeing everything (plus, it'll save some surprises for the wedding/honeymoon!) :goodvibes

if you have two people staying in one room for 4 nights, does that count as 8nts? or just 4 for the two people?

It doesn't matter how many people are in one room it's just the rooms that count. :thumbsup2
Ex: If 5 people stayed 5 nights each it would be 25 rooms! HTH!
