A few months back we had new vinyl window put in. We started out with a lot of problems. The sashes were cut wrong and didn't fit the frames properly. They replaced the sashes however we still have cold air pouring in them. They are terribly inefficient and my house is freezing. The company has tried many "fixes" none of which worked. They have gone from yes there is a problem with air leaking to it's impossible to get an air tight window and they don't have anything else they can do. Lets just say it's freezing in my house.:sad2:

Anyway they have offered to
1. Replace the windows with some sort of crank style, don't really think that is something I would want.
2. Replace the windows with windows from the old manufacturer they had
3. We find another company to replace them and they will pick up their windows and refund our money.

As much of a headache as it will be to find another company and replace the windows yet again in the winter that's what I think we need to do. I don't have much faith left in this company.

Can any experts out there tell me what we should be looking for in a company as well as a window? This has been a total nightmare and I don't even know where to begin now.

TIA

most manufacturers have a local service rep. It sounds like this company has tried to help you out in many ways, but it really sounds like a manufacturer issue. Have the company contact the manufacturer and get their local service rep. out to your home to see what is wrong with the windows. If this does not help, you may want to pursue option #2 (go with their windows from an older manufacturer).
My DH sells windows from a national chain, PM me if you want to.

A friend of mine just went through this with her windows on a new house, and she pitched a fit big enough that the president of the company came to her home to look at what was happening. After a thorough investigation, they decided that the windows were installed incorrectly.

If I were in the same situation, I would meet with the company and go with a different installer.

Robin I PM'd you.

They did pull the capping a few days ago on one of the windows. They claim they are installed correctly. I feel it's the way the windows are made. I don't think the sashes close correctly and so the seal at the bottom doesn't function letting air through. I think the company is taking the easy way out by offering me a refund or replacement. They have been out here at least 17 times in the last few months trying to figure out how to fix them. I have actually told them the problem, but they don't want to listen. I had one of the managers tell me I actually knew more about the workings of the window than he did.

The company has only carried this manufactures windows since June, we purchased them in Sept. I honestly do not think they are made correctly. They claim the old windows are very similar to these new ones. They don't have the foam in the chambers they are air filled chambers.
