Help with puppy potty training!

Ok -I need major help. Lilo is not doing well in the potty training department. I don't know what else to try. I take her out every hour and we stand out there for at least a 1/2 hour. She usually piddles and sometimes poops. I give her a little treat when she does and praise her. Then we come back inside and play and she squats and piddles or poops again inside. I've tried containing her to the kitchen or whatever room I am in and watching her like a hawk but she still does it. She also poops in her kennel at night. HELP!

How old is she??

Our dog did not finally get it completely until about 8 months old.

He was a "double pee-er". That meant when he peed, he would have to pee again about 10 minutes later. Then he was good for about an hour.

I felt like it was us that was trained, not the dog. I am still not sure he is fully trained. We just take him out every few hours and he seems fine and never has accidents.

I don't remember the dogs I had growing up being like this!!

I know you said you have a kennel. Is it a cage? Maybe it's too big because most dogs do not go potty where they sleep.

If she doesn't go outside, bring her in and put her in a cage for a bit and then try again.

If she is going outside....hmm. Try taking her out sooner. Like every 15 minutes and then stretch it longer and longer. Keep a good eye on her and if she starts, scoop her up and hurry her outside.

It takes a long time but it will happen.

Cage training is the only way. You can find all kinds of information on the internet.

You have to change how you are training your dog.

Since you are having a poop issue I would cut out ALL treats and use "praise, praise, praise"...dogs love an over the top..."good potty".

No more treats!!! Get the poop under control. In fact our pups are 10 months now and we give treats RARELY. If we do treat them it is for training...(sit, down, stray, etc..) And it is people food. I don't buy "dog treats" anymore. They are hard on the disgestive system, at least with my dogs. It gives them the runs.

Start naming things...
Let's go "Outside"
(we have bell that we would hit with their noses)
Then give the command to "Go Potty"
If they don't go (give them 10 mins), back into the crate.
(You need to make the crate smaller so the dog can only turn around/lie down in it)
Repeat..Repeat..Repeat

When they "go" HIGH VERBAL PRAISE!!! "GOOD POTTY!!!"

Leash on the dog at all times, so when the dog squats you give a correction, then bring the dog outside to finish its business.
No more freedom for puppy until he is trained.
Leash or crate...that is it. Make sure you have a leather leash, do not use flexi's. They really hinder training.

Thanks for the info. Lilo is 3 months old. We have a small crate but I think based on what you are saying that it is too big for her. I'll try blocking off part of it so she can't move much. I also haven't kept her on the leash in the house. I'll try that as well. The only other dog we have had as an untrained puppy only took a couple of days to train. It's a good thing Lilo is so cute.

3 months! You've got a long way to go.

Cody was at least 9 months but he had an extended hospital stay and medicine in there too, which delayed things.
