CAN ANYONE HELP ME GET MY HEAD ROUND THIS

We own points at SSR our home resort. so say we want to go for three weeks and say try to book at VB for say three nights.

do I then book the three weeks at SSR at the 11 month window and then at the 7 month window transfer (if they were available) points over the VB for the three nights. This is something along the lines as what our guide said but I read on the members board about once you have booked your points you cannot change them so now totally confused :confused3

also............. if we went in July has anybody had trouble booking say a 2 br at the 7 month window.

I'm not sure I fully understand your question. Are you saying that you are taking a three-week vacation, you want to spend most of it at WDW, and two days at VB? If so, will the two days be at the beginning, at the end, or somewhere in the middle?

If the days at Vero are at the beginning or end, you could reserve the whole 3 weeks at SSR at the 11 month window. Then, at the seven-month window, call and see if you can get availability at Vero. If so, great. If not, you're covered at SSR.

If you are asking about a 2-bedroom at SSR in July, reserving at the 11-month window, I wouldn't think you'd have any difficulty. If you are asking about reserving a 2-bedroom at VB at the seven month window, I would think you'd have some difficulty with that...but it could depend a lot on how flexible you are on dates.

If you are going to do VB in the middle of your stay, when you get the VB you're going to have to cancel some of your SSR ressie and rebook the second part. You'll be inside the seven month window then, looking for a 2-bedroom. I think you would get it, but if you didn't, you would also have the option of going to any of the other WDW resorts. I'd think, as a minimum, you would be able to get OKW, just because of the size of OKW.

As far as the points, if you're planning well ahead, you should not have the issues you asked about. You can cancel DVC reservations 31 days or more out with no negative implications other than the possible expiration of a banking deadline or the end of your use year. If you book a non-DVC resort, or you cancel inside 31 days, there are negative ramifications, but not within DVC.

You should do exactly as you state. Book your entire stay at 11 months then change over any days at the 7 month window that you want and can.

Explain your question. If you have the SSR ressie and need to change 3 days to Vero, you just cancel that part of the SSR ressie to accommodate the Vero ressie unless you have enough points for both bookings. I think everyone here is assuming you want 3 weeks total, but want 3 days of those three weeks to be at Vero. If you book the whole 3 weeks at SSR, you will have a whole 3 weeks even if the days at Vero are not available.

. I knew what I meant hehe ! :confused3

anyway............. you are right we want to go for 3 weeks in total but do 3 days at VB.

I don't think this was ansered yet, You will not lose any points by switching. You can cancel any ressie up to 31 days before arrival with no penalty. Points just go back into account.

thanks wtpclc . what if it is borrowed points? will it work just the same.

Ok. I thought this was the case, but then second-guessed myself. Here's straight form the website.
Disney Vacation Club Resorts
Changing a reservation 31 or more days prior to check-in:
If the new reservation uses fewer Vacation Points than the original reservation, the remaining Vacation Points will be restored to your account in the appropriate Use Year.

The borrowed points will go back into your account but they will not be "unborrowed". The borrowed points will go into the current use year and expire at the end of it. Borrowing is a final transaction - once borrowed, a point cannot be returned to its original use year.

For example, let's say you have a February use year and you make a reservation for October, 2005. You use all of the points you got on 2/1/2005 for the reservation and you need to borrow the rest from the points you have coming on 2/1/2006. If you later cancel that reservation, the points you borrowed will expire on 1/31/2006 (end of your 2005 use year). That's assuming you don't use them before then.

You could bank the 2005 use year points that were returned to your account - subject to the normal banking rules.

Hope that helps you understand.

Best wishes -

that does help thanks

I knew I had read somewhere that if you used points and then cancelled then you lost them. It must have been when it was borrowed points.

I will just have to be carefull when I do the ressie.

my main concern was I booked 3 weeks at SSR at the 11 months window using some borrowed points and then tried to change / book 3 nights at VB at the 7 month window. I was worried that as some of them would have been borrowed points they wouldn't have let me change the ressie and in turn lost the 'borrowed' points .

god hope I haven't confused :confused3 everybody further hehe :rotfl:

No need to worry - you can still change the reservation (subject to availability), even if some of the points you used were borrowed.

And I don't think you confused anyone (except maybe yourself), LoL! :teeth:

Only book the days at SSR if you will use them. So if you book SSR and can't change over to VB, you would simply to go SSR instead. But given you're there for 3 weeks, you should be able to make it workable for the 3 days at VB beginning, end or in the middle. Basically you would call at 7 months and tell them you want VB. If it's available, you'd simply cancel the corresponding days at SSR and use those same points to book VB. Your only risk would be if you had points left over. But unless you're less than 2 months before the end of your use year you should be able to work it to bank a few "current year" points if need be.
