Help with planning 10 year old boys birthday - possible non theme park visit

I think I decided to do a split stay AK and CFW. This way we can take advantage of free water park 2 times and not spend any extra money for it. Im leaning AK 2 nights 3 nights CFW.

Im open to any and all advice since we have never ever done a no theme park trip and never knew FW was thing until recently. We would be going mid April.

Been watching you tube videos and now Im not 100% with my plan. I saw the fireworks cruise is $449 o_O Thats about the price as a single day theme park.

Your son will love CFW, my son was 11 when we first went there and we have stay there every time. You need to book the buggy (it costs extra), the buggy is the thing that made it for my son. The pool is great too. You can watch the electric parade at night from the beach and also sort of see the fireworks. I think there are boats you can hire to fish (not sure on this last one might have changed since our last stay). You can take the ferry to other resorts and ride the monorail and visit other resorts (my son enjoys visiting the games rooms at different resorts). There are ponies he can see, there are horse rides as well (not sure if old enough).

My concern that it is a birthday trip, are you sure he is not going to hope he gets to go to the parks. I would definitely do a park ticket rather than a fireworks cruise. The water park is a nice idea though. You could do Hoop Dee Doo, he would love it, it is such good fun and so much food including fried chicken - but again I suspect he would prefer a park visit if a choice had to be made.

AKV is also great but my son preferred the buggy and cabins. Does have two great pools. The animals are fantastic. Does he love animals? There is a mini safari but again it costs money, the question would be if you are paying for all the extras would a park visit be more fun. Only you know your son and what he would enjoy most.

A Disney cruise would be really fun. I’m surprised there isn’t one that goes on his actual birthday they usually run nonstop at least some of the ships doing 3-4 night cruises without missing dates

I have to say that friends who have DVC membership go to the resorts for the pools and never even go into a theme park. They spent a month and a half in Florida, including two weeks at WDW resorts and a week at Vero Beach. They saw characters via resort dining. They did do SeaWorld and Discovery Cove for five days as well, but that was their only park experiences.

I like visiting the horses as FW and if you haven't grown up around a forest, the cabins will be a great experience.

In the videos we watched he really was excited for the golf cart. We could forgo the fireworks cruise and do one animal kingdom day since it’s about the same price.

There is just one that goes to the Disney island that falls on his actual bday and that one is so much more money than the rest of them.

I’m 2nd guessing the cabins decision due to some recent reviews, although April may be better than it is today.

It seems that pontoons are not rentable at the cabins/campground that they are available from VGF and Contemporary, can anyone confirm that?
