We just started collecting in Aug. My mother in law just came back and bought us the locking backs, but I can not figure them out. I put it on, tighten it and it seems tight but as soon as I pull on it to test it they pop off. Are they secure that I should not pull them to test, I do not want to lose our pins if a back falls off. How do they work? HELP! Thanks

i wish someone would answer you! i was thinking of getting some of those pin backs and now i just don't know........

:confused3 martha.

No one can help me. They seem pretty tight but as soon a s I pull on them pop they go!!! I realize they will not be pulled on, but sure do get bounced around a lot on the kids lanyards!! Anyone use them?

They should not come off if you pull on them. Make sure the screw part is closest to the pin itself and then screw it tight. If the screw is toward the end of the pin then it does not have enough to hold on to on the pin tip to hold it in place. Make sure it is as close to the pin face as you can get it. Hope this helps.

Thank you I am going to have to get some of those type and see. Thank you for the help!!

Was at WDW this summer and the family got interested in pin trading. My youngest son did very well and got a number of quality pins in trade with CMs. We got some of the locking pin backs so he wouldn't lose them. Unless you are doing what some on here have already mentioned, I am not sure what the problem is because we haven't had any problems with them and I have really tugged on them after locking them.

I made sure the pin in pushed tight through the lanyard. I then made sure the allen screw was unscrewed almost completely out of the pin back. Then, I pushed the pin back tight on the pin post against the back of the lanyard, with the allen screw end on the pin back (it is closer to one end) closest to the back of the lanyard. After tightening the allen screw completely, I haven't had any problems. Unless you aren't turning the pin back the right way, or you're not diligently tightening the allen screw, I would guess that maybe you got some bad pin backs. The other thing is that you are cross threading the allen screws and they aren't actually going all the way in against the post of the pin, even though you can't turn them any more.

OK, here's the kind that use the Allen screws...

edit: my post count is too low for links

And here's the kind (like mentioned above) that don't require an Allen wrench...

edit: same here

Can anyone out there attest to either one? The Allen wrench kind seem obvious that they would work, but they would require a tool to remove... not very convenient. Has anyone tried the others that don't require the tool?

I purchased a couple packs of the allen screw type backs on my WDW trip last year. I had absolutely no issues with them, they hold very securely. I only used them on the pins I knew I wouldn't trade of course as I didn't want to have to unscrew them very often.

I'd love to hear more about these "tool-less" backs. I've been thinking of ordering some from from ebay, but I'm not exactly sure how they work. Are they a 2 piece back? Like they just push on, but you pull on the top of the back to remove them?

Thanks for the help. I got one on! LOL I am fubble fingers and they are really just not working well for me. I am going to get some that do not require the tool! Thanks again!

Same here... the ebay ad says: "the harder you pull the pin, the tighter it grabs"

OK, so how do you take it off if you want to trade with a cast member?

They are just like the Old TieTack backs. They have a catch in it but when you pull the Back it unlocks it and releases . Very easy to use for trading and moving pins around.

I've got kids and unfortunately they lose alot of pins. i was thinking of those screw backs, but was unsure if they would do the trick.

How are they turning out for you guys?

I actually got up from a ride and looked down and saw one of my pins in the seat. Since then I'm pretty paranoid about loosing a pin on a ride. We immediately went and bought a couple packs of the screw type backs. They worked great for us, held the pins securely and no more worries of loosing anything. A friend that we were with had one issue, he was tightening a back on and the whole "pin" or needle part actually broke free from the rest of the pin. If that makes any sense. Of the 3 of us that only happened to this one pin so I'm guessing it was a cheap pin or he was just turning really hard on that screw.

I'm considering buying these tool less ones for my trip in a couple months so I don't have to worry about taking the screw backs on and off.
