Going end of January-beginning of February. Trying to make park reservations and I see now that there are After Hours parties at MK and HS during our stay (not sure why I didn't see this before) We have AP so we can hop. Not sure if we'll be going yet. I can't justify the price.
Is it better to book parks the same day as the parties (crowd level) or to avoid them?

We went to MK two weeks ago on a party night and the park was not crowded at all. The reduced hours didn't bother us as we don't try to do all the rides.

Normally park attendance is lower when a park is having a party night due to the reduced hours for regular day guests. Most guests want to get the value of a park with longer hours without the requirement to pay for an extra party ticket.

After Hours events start after the park closes at it's regular closing time. After Hours events have no impact on day guests (unlike Halloween and Christmas parties which close the park early for day guests). After Hours events do not alter crowd levels during normal park operating hours.

I agree with @snacks. Halloween and Christmas parties tend to decrease crowds quite substantially in the MK but I have not heard of AH events having the same impact. I confirmed this with the historical crowd calendar on Touring Plans.

They don’t close the park early for After Hours unlike the holiday parties. But probably will have more people there late in the evening than a day without an after hours event. Not going to effect the crowds in the day,

Hi...So what about Hollywood Studios? Are the crowds lower during Jollywood party? Touring plans has it on a level 4 the day I'm going. If it is lower crowds I wonder for how long?

I consider Jollywoods to be a Christmas party so I was including that in my answer. I did both Jollywoods and MVMCP earlier this month. I believe the holiday party crowd reduction for Jollywoods was less significant than for MVMCP, especially in the morning/rope drop. HS did thin out quite a bit in the afternoon prior to party people being admitted.

Again- this doesn't apply to After Hours events which do not effect day crowds in the parks,

Well, I guess I have to decide if the crowds will be lower on a non-party day or party day. I would think the non-party day would be more crowded due to longer hours and maybe two Fantasmic shows. Friday, HS is at a 7!! I'll go with the 4 on Wednesday and get out ASAP....or purchase LLPP. Ty for your responses.

The person who started this thread was interested in After Hours events. Those are different than parties. Crowds tend to be lower during the day when their is a PARTY at night. Crowds do not tend to be lower during the day when there is an AFTER HOURS event at night. They are different things, held on different nights.

This thread got confusing because the first responses were about party nights when the OP actually asked about After Hours events.

Thank you for the responses. That's pretty much what I thought -that the after hours events don't affect crowds as much due to the start time.
