I've been to NYC many times- never been to LI...

DH is having Lasik Surgery there on September 15th....so explain to me, how to do you get to Long Island from I-95?

We'll be coming down 95 from VT, and we'll be coming a day early as DH has pre-op starting at 830 on the 15th.

Any good CLEAN NICE hotels you can recommend??

Take I-95 to the Throggs Neck Bridge. Continue straight off the Throggs Neck Bridge - do not take any of the turning exits off it - just go straight over and off the bridge. Once off the bridge, continue until you see signs for 495 - Long Island Expressway - and then head east.

Where exactly are you going on Long Island? Long Island is 120 miles long and the LIE travels most of its length.

That I'm not sure of!

The situation is this- DMIL had her surgery in CT...DH has to have this other doc do his (the pioneer in Lasik's he holds over 80 patents for it)...the doc was SUPPOSE to go to Manhatten to do it....well, long story short, the machine DH needs, has just been moved to LI..

I'll find out from him where it is...

thanks for the help!

It is also possible to take ferries from CT over to LI. This will cut out a lot of traffic for you. Find out which town in LI you are headed to and I'll try to suggest the right ferry. If you drive all the way down to NYC you will then be turning around and coming back up the other side of LI Sound. The ferries cut out all this distance and traffic.

I think I have been hearing advertisements for a *new* type of Lasik surgery. Perhaps this is what your hubby is having. Unfortunately, I never paid much attention to the radio announcements about it.

I kinda suspect that you may be going to Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Lake Success. No real reason why I feel this way, just a hunch. I don't think it would be North Shore Medical Center and I don't think it would be any of the hospitals further east. Again, just a feeling that I have with no basis in fact.

Your husband is having this procedure done on Sunday? That means you will head our way on Saturday. Tomorrow is Friday. You are cutting this kinda close, don't ya think?

OOPS! Pardon me!!! I just re-read your original post. SEPTEMBER 15th! I thought it odd to have this done on a weekend. You have an entire month to settle this. Now, I feel better, except for the fact that I just let the entire DIS board know that I have vision problems myself!

let us know which hospital. LIJ and North Shore are close to each other and close to the city, but there are other major hospitals on the Island (like Stony Brook) that are a pretty good hike from the city.

if it's LIJ, North Shore or Winthrop, look into staying at the Long Island Marriot near the Nassau Coliseum.
