Help! I'm trying to do a name fill myself (I love them and want to do some fun things for upcoming trips and future gifts). I am working in photoimpact and I have the three layers - white base, letters and jpg background. I cannot figure out how to merge them so I end up with the name just filled.

If anyone can give me a little push I'd greatly appreciate it. I read the sticky but it's in photoshop.

Thanks!

There are a couple of ways you can make a name fill.

The easiest way:

- Pick a font
- Type the name
- Open your easy palette. -- Workspace, panels, easy palette.
- Go to material attribute gallery
- Right click on any color, modify properties and apply
- Choose file and then pick the picture you want as the fill

From there you can add a border. If you don't like the way the picture fills the letters follow the same steps as above, and when you are still in the choose a file window click options and then tile the texture. If you want more than one image in the name, do each letter individually.

Now, the way I do it. Takes a bit of time, but I like the way it turns out this way.

- Type the name
- Add a border and make it the color and thickness you would like it to be
- Font color white
- Right click and merge all objects
- On the left, in the tool panel, choose the magic wand tool
- Click on the white area inside the letters
- Right click and invert
- Right click and convert to object
- Choose your picture and paste it to your name
- Right click, arrange, send to back
- Re-size your picture behind the letters to your preference
- if the picture does not have a background, you can add one
- You can also make the characters pop out by duplicating the picture and erasing the unwanted parts. This step requires the picture to have no background so make sure to remove any if necessary.

A few examples for you. The first two are the first way I explained. The last two are using the second explanation. I hope this helps you. :)

Thank you so much! I am going to try them both!

Do the same steps or idea apply to filling a shape?

You are a Godsend! I spent forever messing around couldn't get it.

You're welcome. Yes, the second one does apply for filling shapes. Let me know how it works out for you, or if you have any more questions. I'm happy to help. :)

Cool! Ok one more question - how do you do the borders? Do you have any good tutorial sites? I'm a software consultant so I should be able to figure out this stuff :) Thanks and I know that was two questions....:)

I don't have any tutorial sites, sorry. I bought my program for $5, just to play around and make myself some magnets for our cruise and taught myself how to do everything I've ever done. I still play around a lot and figure new things and how to make some things easier to do. Maybe do a google search for tutorials. Sorry I can't be more help there.

You mean like the glitter border on the Rapunzel fill? For a simple border like the Amelia fill, just choose border and a color and a thickness. For the one like Giselle Rapunzel, that is another step. You need to find a glitter background to work with or any background of your choice. I use google. You can even use any color you like. Save the picture you want to use to your files or if you just want a color, pick the color you want and use that.

~ First type the name and then on the easy palette go to Material attribute gallery.

~ Go to bevel b40, it should be the penultimate circle.

~ You will then fill the text border. Go to color and click on the color you want or if you want a fill right click, modify properties and apply, file and choose the pattern you want to fill the text with.

~ Merge all and then follow the steps for the second fill.

Thanks so much! Those few tips have me going in the right direction so I can keep playing around and learning!

I'm hoping someone here uses Photoimpact and can clairfy these directions for me. I've been using Photoimpact for a few years to do basic designs, but have never figured out to do the text fill. These directions are really good, but I've hit a snag that I can't solve. When I follow these directions and use the magic wand tool to click in the white areas of the letters, it only affects the last letter I click on. In other words, as I click on one letter and then move to the next, the first letter doesn't stay affected by the magic wand. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I am doing wrong?

When you have the magic wand tool selected, at the top panel under "mode" there should be a + and a - sign. Make sure the plus sign is selected. This will allow you to select more than one area. Hope it helps. :)

Thanks Milliepie!! I was hoping you were still active here! I was active here several years ago and have come back in preparation for a trip this summer. The + trick worked, thank you!! I can't tell you how excited I am to finally be able to do name fills!
