OK, would any of you guys be willing to answer a couple questions for an English paper I have to write? I'd really appreciate anybody's help/opinions!!

1. Does your school (I am mainly talking about high schools, but any school would be fine) have a tracking system (i.e. Advanced Placement/Honors classes, "regular" classes, etc.)?

2. Do you think that these classes are a disadvantage to some students (i.e. not being pushed hard enough, students in the "lower" classes don't take them seriously because they are "lower", etc.)?

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or post something here (I hope my questions make sense). Once again, I'd really appreciate anybody's help, and thanks in advance!!

OK, thanks, I'll check my messages! :D

1. Yes, I go to a small High School in Mass. but we do have a class rank system like that. Ours goes like this:
Non-Honors
College Prep
Honors
College Course
Also, the harder the class the more points you get added to your GPA, for exampl, a college course adds seven points, an honors 5, a CP 3, and non-honors 0. So a kid with a 94 in Non-Honors actually scores lower than a kid with a 90 in honors or College Course

2. To an extent, but I notice many of the kids in our non honors classes simply don't care. Most of the students who want to work are in the honors classes.

Hope this helps you out!

1.yes

2. no, most of the people i know in the lower classes make fun of themselves for not being smart. also i don't think its fair for the smarter students to have to sit there while the teacher explains things for the students who don't understand it (i had to go through that in grade school:rolleyes: )different people have different gifts and if someone isn't good in academics then they should know that they are good at other things, like maybe sports

1. Yes, I go to a big High School in Mass. but we do have a class rank system like that. Ours goes like this:
Basic
Standard
College Prep
Honors
College Course
Also, the harder the class the more points you get added to your GPA. We did away with class rank tho.....
2.I go to school in mass but i disagree with the whole non honors kids dont try. i am in college prep and have a b+ Gpa i work my but off to get that i think that kids in basic levels unless they have problems dont attempt to do work. I go to Silver Lake to so ya i guess u all might of heard of our buses.... haha wow did we get some bad media!

Hope this helps you out!

::yes::

sure i'd love to help!

1. I go to a big public highschool in NJ. And yes, we have tracks. It goes like this:
Colleg-Prep
Honors
Advanced Placement
College Prep is basically just a track 2 class, and honors is the normal track 1, and AP, everyone knows what that is so yeah...

2. I'd say that some kids in college prep just don't care (just like wut the other ppl said) but also, some do. In my school, if u have straight A's all 4 marking periods, you don;t have to take the final. SO everyone;s goal is to not take it, so they work to get the As.

1. yes
2. In a way. I attend a small private school which offers honors courses. Most of the classes start off large and over the years dwindle down. I'm in honors English, Advance Biology, and Algebra II. Algebra II is my only class in which we study more material than the other Algebra II classes. I'm a sophmore taking honors junior classes. This enables me to have extra points added to my final grade before each report card. The one thing that I believe to be unfair is that in some cases, the sophmores who are no longer in the "honors junior classes" (but in regular junior classes) study the exact same material but do not have points added to their grades. (these points do make a difference). I enjoy having the extra points, but believe that anyone studying classes a year ahead of themselves deserve the same treatment.
