i wanted to know if you think i can get by with 800 dollars in spending money for food it is just me and two kids 10 and 11 we will be there 8 days and thats all i will have for food money as some unexpected bills came up my transportation park tic and hotel will be paid already any tips on how to stretch it out ty.:confused: :confused:

I will try and help you here. I think you may be able to "get by" but it is going to be very very tight. I estimate at least $10.00 per person for even the cheapest meals (all counter service - food and beverage) and with three people, that is $90.00 per day.

You might be able to save a little bit of money if the youngest is o.k. with eating the kids meals, which are usually a couple dollars cheaper and sometimes even include a drink I believe.

Also, if you are using a town car service, maybe stop at the store on the way and get thinks like boxes of cereal, bagels, etc. which you could eat for breakfast. Even if you get a couple of boxes of cereal and have to buy the milk at WDW, you are saving money because if you buy their little teeny boxes of cereal, I believe they are around $2.00 each.

Oh...and McDonald's at DTD. Although the meals are more expensive than your local McD's, the combos are still only around $6.00 so that would be a cheap alternative once in a while.

Good luck.

Oops...I was thinking the youngest was 8. 10 might not want to do that. But I have even eaten the kids meals and they are generally the same as the adult, just with less fries. :)

Just thought of one more thing. If you have a DisneyClub card, I know you can get 20% off at Wolfgang Puck Express at Downtown Disney Marketplace (this is not the regular cafe or restaurant, it is a different location at the marketplace.) They have some yummy food there and its not too overly priced and a 20% discount will certainly help.

Oh, and maybe make one night a pizza night and get a large pizza for the three of you. That will probably be around $20.00.

I have to say it can be done. My husband and I brought our 1 yo daughter to disney in december for 11 days. She did eat off the childrens menu but she did eat at every meal. We only brought $700 in cash with us for food. Everything else went on the cc. A great way to save some money is if you have a car wiht you go to a super market and get cereal and bread or bagels. Or if you don't even though it is a little more hassle bring them with you from home. A bagel is a good breakfast and cheap. If you buy one there it will cost you the same for one bagel as it would for a whole bag in a store. And if your staying in one of the AS resorts you can toast them there. You can also save money on soda's with refillable mugs. And also buy a water bottle and fill it up in your room or water fountain everday.(It's much cheaper to bring on from home as well). I know you won't be able to go out for really nice meals but we always splurge on one good meal. An all you can eat is the best. Also if you bought a package then you have a flex feature for everyone. We use this as a good meal as well.
I hope I've helped a little bit. But don't fret it can be done just do research before. Find out which rest. gives you what you want for the price you can afford. And bring as much as you can from home. PB&J is a no brainer.

I budget $50 a day for myself and two kids 7 and 10. We always do at least one character meal and one sit down meal per trip. I take a cooler with food and we eat breakfast in the room every day. We always have snacks in the room and have been known to eat a sandwich when we go back to swim. I love to eat out but we never want to spend the time. We take water bottles with use so we don't buy drinks in the park. I never skimp on the desserts and the mickey bars! Last year when we went during the summer it was so hot we didn't want to eat all the time either.

This will be our fourth trip and I have never gone over that budget and I really don't feel like we are missing anything.

I'm helping my goodfriend....widower with 4 kids plan his 1st trip to the world on a super inexpensive budget and I priced his entire week for 700 and that includes a character dinner...

Counter service is about $7 per person average in my estimates and they plan to do breakfast in the room, I've budgeted $37 for lunches and $50 for dinner..and my total has only amounted $602 for 8 days (counts day of arrival and departure). And counter food in my estimates with kids can be too much food for my family we usually share. I'm not counting on his family to do this...though he does have young kids also, 11, 10, 6, 5... I think it is a doable budget.....

PS... Any great ladies out there looking for an outstanding man with great personality and 4 kids:D I'm trying to be his social corrdinator also ...but I'm failing miserably:(

You absolutely can make it on that budget. My family of 5 will spend $100/day on food only when we have a character lunch and fast food supper at the parks. You can feed your group, splurge, and have money left on $100 a day for 3. My best tips for saving money on food are:

Eat breakfast in your room. If it doesn't have a frig maybe you can request one. Either way, take a cooler. If you have a microwave you can even precook and freeze things like sloppy joes or taco meat. I've flown with a cooler of frozen sandwich meats and have seen people take roasts and all sorts of foods to Mexico (worked for an airline). For that matter, if you're driving you could take your own microwave. A crockpot will reheat food, too, and I've taken one on trips for that purpose.

Carry water bottles, but take powdered drink mix like Tang, lemonade, or Gatorade for variety. Save soda for your room.

Have a variety of snacks and let the kids fill fanny packs with them. Let them munch at their own discretion with no interference. You can individually portion more drink mix in small ziplocks and pack those in the fanny packs. I start buying snacks along with our regular groceries well in advance - some being healthy and some is worthless junk. I divide it equally so no one gets to hog all the rice crispie bars, (but they can trade theirs) and they decide each day what fills their bag.

Have splurge meals like character dining or full service for lunch. It costs less than supper and is more filling than breakfast. After a character lunch we like to keep dinner light and welcome the opportunity to walk some of it off.

Go to www.wdwig.com and look at the menus. I've put together quick reference lists from that telling me restaurants, prices, and menu items we'd like. There are kids meals for $3.50 that are certainly enough food for me. The adult combo meals are too much food for me but probably the right size for my 10 yr. old son if he's very hungry. Not all restaurants charge the same for virtually the same item, so you can save just by researching.

You can always pack a cooler with lunch (or 2 meals) and leave it in your car. You can try to carry it in a backpack or bag, but with the heightened security you might have to return it to the car. I've taken PB sandwiches and frozen juice boxes in the parks in a small cooler with no problem. If you drive to park hop (we often prefer this) it's the perfect opportunity to eat. There's a McDonald's you can hit going to or from AK. If you're going when hours are long, an afternoon break from the parks can be very refreshing and you can eat lunch elsewhere. If you're going when hours are short, the unlimited fanny pack snacking can keep the kids satisfied until you leave and have supper away from the parks.

For character meals I'd check out Connections, because you can save a few bucks as they include tax and tip.

Pizza delivery to your hotel room can be less expensive than counter service supper in the park.

This may sound like we are Disney dining deprived, but that's not the case at all. We'll be doing 2-3 character meals, the Sci-Fi Dine In, the Prime Time 50's Cafe, and possibly Beaches and Cream. Our eating strategy saves $$ for splurges, preserves our time in the parks for things we'd rather do (dining can EAT the time), and offers us a good break in the middle of the day when we splurge on lunch. Sometimes eating in the parks is a treat, but sometimes it's just drudgery, and a sloppy joe with chips in the room sounds much better. Hope this helps, and if you want my restaurant summaries I'd be happy to e-mail them to you as that's how I take my travel notes - write e-mails to myself. (kamaiia@aol.com)

My dh, dd(8) and myself were down for 7nights last fall. When the final bill came it was for about $1100. That was for just about everything we bought, food, gifts, character meals and a meal at the California Grill. We did at least 4 char. meals and had photos done about 6 times. So....I would say that you can certainly do it for $800. I would suggest that you pack munchies, such as peanut butter crackers, granola bars, juice boxes etc. and bring them down with you. These can be eaten while waiting in lines. I would also suggest that you have a smallish breakfast, then snack on the above items, and eat a latish lunch at a sit-down rest. Maybe around 3:00. It's cheaper than dinner and you get the same food most of the time. Then you can have something light later on. We also bought the refill. mugs and used them as souveniers. You got to have the soda/coffee all week and then have something to bring home. They get more use at home than a t-shirt!!! So, plan, plan, plan. You can do it cheaply. Have a great time!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Absolutely bring snacks from home! It's very easy to blow your budget on drinks & junk otherwise. We went with my niece & nephew, 10&11, and as long as they had their own water & munchies, they didn't ask for anything. And these kids can EAT!!

Good luck! I'm sure you can do it :)

Ok OK Ok the 19th is next week:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :p :p :p Dh is calm of course but, ds, dd and I are bouncing off the wall with excitement. I started packing back in May:p and I am still packing. At first we were going to stay @ CBR but then changed our minds because the kids wanted to do US/IOA also. So we decided to stay on International Drive. Quality Inn Int for a rate of 39.00 a night. With tax that only came to 322 and some change which is perfect for me because we close on our house after we come back and I was really stressing about our budget with this being somewhat of a last minute trip. I will definitely start saving for next year's trip this year. Anywhoo Since both of our rooms will have a fridge and microwave, I went to target and purchased a huge rolling Avante Guard duffle bag for 39.99 last week. This week they have the same bag on sale for 27 and some change. I can't find my receipt to get the price adjustment:( OK this is what i did with the duffel bag. When target had their sale on last week they had pop tarts ,rice krispie treats chips paper plates, foam bowls, capri sun and different brands of cookies on sale. I purchased soooooo much stuff to put in that duffel bag. I still have to find the pokemon fruit rollups for a dollar at the dollar store. Doing this will save us alot of money on snacks because our ds9 and dd13 can eat. We are also taking our cousin who is 10 and she can eat like a horse and skinnier than a bean poll;) I notice post about fanny packs. Are they the packs you can put around your waist. I remember reading from a post that a parent put snacks in their kids fanny packs during the park visits so they could snack freely. If these are packs i'm thinking about getting then that is a great idea. Another great thing is the kids eat free from the buffett @ Quality Inn. Well my daughter can't but the other two can. I printed out several dining coupons for restaurants on International drive and around that area. I Purchased the Bonus Pass for US/IOA for 89.00 for adult and 76.00 child. This includes express pass, unlimited admission to city walk and both parks for five days. I just have to purchase my WDW ph tickets . I wish they had 3 day ph tickets but since they do not i have to buy the 4 ph ticket. I am soooo excited especially for my kids. My dd is especially excited because her bestttt friend moved to Orlando 2 months ago. She will come stay with us and go to the parks which I can't wait either because she is such a sweet heart. Again I am sooooooooo excited:p :p :p :) :jester: :jester: :jester: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce: :p :p :p :p Ok Ok I want to let all of you nice people know how helpful your post were in the past and today as well. With this being my family first WDW--US/IOA trip I had no idea what to bring until I joined the DIS:p To the person who posted the Helpful List thank you thank you thankyou it really helped. The collaspsable coolers (bought 2) was a great idea. I Thank God for guiding me to this web site and I thank him for all of your kind and helpful replies. Even though I have never seen a face, YOU ALL HAVE BIG BEAUTIFUL HEARTS AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL:D Well I'm off in search of pokemon roll ups but, if you think I am missing something please let me know. Thank you all again And God Bless:D :D :D

I am also thankful for finding this site. I first had booked a room for Days Inn Suites. Then I heard nothing but bad things so I seen only good things about Country Inn & Suites in LBV so I changes my ressys. I also thought the list of muchies to take in the fanny packs was helpfull. Got the items on my grocery list. I would like to know were I can purchase a Autograph book for my two girls ages 7 & 9 to get autographs from the characters. We are all so excited. This is our fist trip to WDW. I have even gotten a budget going from looking at all the suggestions on this board. Could you tell me if it looks good?
Here goes
3 nights at hotel on the road
and 5 nights a disney 8@70 plus tax =622.00 Kids suite at Country Inn & Suites is 69.00 per night.
Retanl car two ways = 438.00
Gas = 200.00
Tickets for 3 major parks and 1 water park 2adults & 2 children = 667.00
Food = 1000.00
Misc. = 500.00
The girls each saved thier own souviner money. $150 each.
Total Budget about 3500.00
Sound good or should I change/add anything?
Thank you for all your help

Princess Ariel - the fanny packs are the ones that belt around the waist which is what I imagine you're getting. The Disney Store has character canteens/cups with a strap so the kids don't have their hands full. One year we got some Disney bottles at Walmart that had an insulated covering and snapped onto the fanny packs.

AnnGoss- You can get autograph books at Disney, but I make my own. I download clip art from disneyclipart.com and print my pages on card stock. Office Max or Office Depot will bind it with a clear plastic cover on front, colored on back for about $2. Mickey signs his picture as do the other characters. Last time I made big scrap/activity/autograph books that I added photos to after we got home. That was a huge and ambitious project, but it got SO much extra attention from characters. This year I'm going for something original but a little less grand. If you don't want to bite off a project of that magnitude, then I'd go to Target and Walmart for Disney themed alternatives. Make sure to get a BIG pen, because it's hard for characters to hold onto normal sized ones. They will appreciate it, and your child will have a unique pen as a souvenir. I have to stop now, because I'm one of those sick mothers who turns what could be simple into a huge extravaganza requiring hours of work and creative energy. I could go on, but ...no!

Sure you can do it for $100 a day. What we have found is that most meals are large enough that 2 meals can feed three people (actually I had one meal at AK that fed me and 2 of my kids and dh ate the rest!!) We also would eat breakfast in our room. I'd buy milk the night before and ice it down in the sink. We would pour cereal and have cold milk to put over it. So really we only had lunch and dinner to worry about and usually we would "snack" so much during the day that we didn't have a "real" lunch. We have a family of 5 and that is what we budget for food each day. Souvenirs really depend on what you want to buy. Since we have been often enough we know that we want to get a t-shirt for each (although not always), a small snowglobe for dd#2's collection and dwarf for dd#1's collection and a small toy for ds's collection. DH usually gets music of some sort and I get a sterling charm and a little box of some kind. Other than that we just get what looks appealling but rarely spend more than $300 total for stuff for us.

Travelitis I found the fanny packs today. I actually thought they were the regular waist packs you use. I went to target looking for the regular packs and low and behold I find myself in the camping section and I see the Coleman's Kid's fanny packs with the water bottle for 12.99. I bought my dd 13 and ds9 one each. At first I thought my ds would not like it because it has some purple fabric on the sides but he is ok with it. I also found some nice packs for my mom and myself @ K-mart. It has 5 compartments and a cell phone holder for 9.99 and my mom's was 5.99. I also found ponchos for .99 that will nicely in the packs. I have so much food in my rolling duffel I hope its not over the max weight which will cause me to pay extra:( Oh well its worth it. I could not find the pokemon roll ups so I went to Sam's Club and bought 3 boxes fruit roll ups with 48 in each box for 6.99 and I bought the sponge bop fruit snacks with 50 in each box for around the same price. If you think of anything else I might need please let me know
:) :) :) ;) ;) ;) ;)

One thing that we do is we only eat like 2 meals a day. It depends on what we want to do or what character meals we want to do. We have done some days where we eat our breakfast/lunch meal like anywhere from 10-11 depending on what we want to eat and then do a late lunch early dinner like around 4 or 4:30. If you are doing a character meal sometimes it's a little less crowded and easier to get the PS also. I also bring snacks from home that can transport easy in the backpack and take the pack everywhere. We generally don't eat 3 square meals a day so it doesn't bother us. But I do bring bagels and fruit for in the room when we get up in case we do want something. I also bring baggies so that if we decide to make bagels or something to eat later we can make them up and throw them in the baggie and into the pack.
