I am going for the first time to MK with a 6 year old, my granddaughter.

Since there are so many things that we want to try and cover, I'm not sure where to start first at rope drop.

I think that we will go to Peter Pan (I know this line gets long), Little Mermaid first, and then work from there. But honestly, does anyone have any ideas of a better way? Should I go to Fantasyland first? Or counter clockwise? It will be in June and we will not spend much time in Tomorrowland (just the people mover there, and maybe the cars, but it's not a priority).

Help. I've never had to have a 'strategy' for MK, as it's usually only us adults. :)

Thanks.

What "big rides" do you want to do? Sounds like not space mountain. How about 7dwarves, Big Thunder, or Splash?

I would do goofy's barnstormer before the bigger rides, unless you know that the 6 year old is good on fast rides. some children do better than others on roller coaster type rides. Peter pans flight is a good one to test 'dark' rides. (before POTC, for example.)

the unofficial guide to WDW by Bob Sehlinger used to have plans that worked efficiently for the theme parks, especially with small children. I'm not sure how that works since covid has come on the scene though.

they also have a touring plans website which allows you to plan your rides efficiently, based on various parameters such as least waking or least wait time.

My granddaughter will like anything that isn't too fast, etc. So, no on the Space Mountain. Or Thunder Mountain, but I think everything else will be okay.

Let's just say no to the coasters.

My biggest question is this: what long-line-rides will we have to do early and get those over with? I know some rides are real popular, so we don't want to leave those until the end.

ETA: We have only 1-2 days in the MK.

I watched a couple of YouTube videos by Molly from allears (I‘d watch a couple of recent videos on what waits and crowds look like). If you are going to rope drop an hour before park opening, then heading towards Adventureland might be a good idea, knock off splash (it might open a bit later, hop into another line nearby), big thunder, POC and jungle cruise before taking a break at Pecos bill for lunch. The coasters are not crazy and our 4 year old loved big thunder.

Create a list of your must dos and research wait times at the time you expect to be there. Download the MDE and look at current wait times by list (or research ride wait times on touring plans by ride). Also look at outdoor queue and indoor queue (it’s probably hard to wait for Seven Dwarfs mine train around 2 pm vs the shade from the tress in the morning).

If Splash is not a priority, then go to SDMT, Peter Pan, little mermaid, Small world, haunted mansion and then lunch? if you’re taking a midday break, then come back in the evening and hit Tomorrowland?

Touring Plans is definitely helpful to make a schedule. I quickly drew this up however it’s dated for our trip in Sept, which is lower crowds so the times might be off. What week is your trip? Sounds like a lotta fun with your grandchild 😊💜 Tues, Wed, and Thurs are usually always the best days to visit MK, unless there are holidays or ticketed holiday parties to consider.

If you’re visiting MK twice, Tues and Thursday is a great choice.

Oh, thanks so much. These ideas really help! I'm so used to just taking my time when visiting WDW, that I realized for this trip, I have to have a plan of sorts.

Thanks!
