when i was a senior in high school i designed and built our christmas dance. the theme was "a holiday in paris" and i set up our area as a park near the eiffel tower, at sunset.
i had little to no budget and everything i used was either paper, paint, or sheets of styrofoam. i didn't buy anything new except 30.00 worth of white christmas lights. the styrofoam was very cheap too, but i wasn't involved in the purchase. they already had that when i became involved. the only extra purchase we made after the lights was maybe 8 rolls of duct tape.
here are some pictures of it:
these are the trees that made the "park." they're typically big round collumns, and i just covered them with paper and duct tape.
i covered these walls with purple paper, and suspended my eiffel tower and city scape against them.
refreshments were being served in the cafeteria, so i turned the outside into a cafe. the fabric was left over from a previous dance, i just cut it and sewed it together.
we had three discoballs that actually belonged to the school, that we hung up. (you can see the top of my eiffel tower)
the lights are supposed to be 'stars' over the park below. again, another clear shot of the eiffel tower.
this is an elevator on the second floor of the area, and we decided to cover it with another "city scape" and snow.
the stars
our entry way didn't show up very well in photographs, but we covered the ceiling in icicle lights, and the walls in glittery black paper, with a red carpet running down the middle. it was VERY pretty when all the lights were turned off except the icicle ones.
a close up of the cafe doors.

hope that helps!
