My family traditionally goes to Disney the week of Thanksgiving and stays at an onsite resort. My daughter has bought an RV and wants to stay at the campground for Nov 2018. I do all the planning and have read about making reservations at 499 days but want to be sure since this is the first time at the campground.
If they want to check in on the Wed before Thanksgiving week which is Nov 14th and check out the 24th, when do we call? Also, they have a small dog, how difficult is it to get a pet friendly site? Thanks for any information anyone will share.

Call ASAP, The Fort fills up fast for Holidays. Pet friendly sites are readily available. If they run out of designated pet loops they allow special consideration in any loop. Be sure to let them know about your pet and any other requests you might have. Have an awesome time planning.

Bravesfan,

Your check-out date drives when you can make the reservation. All your days/nights have to fit in the 499 days window so I used this tool

https://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadded.html?m1=11&d1=24&y1=2018&type=sub&ay=&am=&aw=&ad=499&rec=

and it says July 13, 2017 is the soonest you can make your reservation. If you make it soon once you get inside the window, you won't have a problem getting a reservation.

As for a Pet friendly site, there are 3 levels of sites for RV's (the 4th is Tent/Popup) and each one has loops to be a pet site. The Full sites are pet-friendly loops 1600-1900. 2100 is a Full loop but not sure if it allows pets. Preferred loops are next most expensive, only 3 of those 100-300 with only 300 being a pet loop. Last is Premium loops (biggest and most expensive) with loops 400-1400 and pet friendly is 400-1000.

So decide what type of site you want (Full, Preferred, or Premium) based on price and location within the Fort. Reserve that. Sixty days before check-in you can do early check-in and designate a pet friendly loop (can request it also when you make the ressie if over the phone). Understand too that the Fort reserves the right to put pets in ANY loop if the pet loops get too full.

So if you book early you will have no problem getting a reservation and when you get closer you can designate the pet status.

PS - I am not a pet owner and they might chime in and correct any misinformation I shared but the date calculator and loop status is pretty common knowledge.

Ed's advice is spot on. The date you can make reservation is based on check out date Date for dining reservations is 180 days from check in and FP's is 60 days from same. As you will have a pup I can recommend 1800 and 1600 loops (Full Hook ups) as being very convenient to dog walking area

Both the Dining Reservations and Fast Pass windows open at 7am on their respective dates to your reservation. Enjoy the Fort.

Want to add one thing about pet loops that just happened, all loops except the 2 tent loops 1500 and 2000 are now pet loops. They have begun to install the bag dispensers in what was once the non pet loops.

Thanks for the update, Corgidad. There had been rumors but this makes it official in my mind.

Have a good holiday weekend (wherever you are :teeth: ).

Bama Ed ---- you're the best! Just marked my calendar to call for reservations based on your 499 window! Thanks for this info!!

I'm sort of bummed that pets are in all loops. Barking dogs, dog messes, aggressive dogs, and the hundred times I've been told that the dog off leash "is so friendly."

Well it is what it is. Nothing hoses up an internet forum faster than pet issues.

And FWIW the only place a dog should be off a leash is in the animal park near loop 300.

The Fort management is only a phone call away.

PS - I don't own a pet (but I did for years) but once bad experience doesn't represent all pet owners IMHO.

I have had a couple dogs over the years and truly loved them. It's really not the dogs, but inconsiderate owners. Don't mean to start something unpleasant. Anyway, we're leaving tomorrow for 12 nights in Fort Wilderness so I'll report back in a couple weeks.
