We are veterans, and normally stay at ASMu or CBR (when their rates are good). I have not stayed off property in about 7 years, and would prefer not to go that route.

DH has a conference at the Buena Vista Palace Hotel. It's in early December. My AP's expired last March, and I'm not anticipating picking up new AP's for this trip, so no AP discount.

DH is sick of the Value hotels....so I'm going to shoot for either CBR or CSR. We will have a car. I will drop him off and pick him up while DD9 and I do the parks.

So, I have never tried to find lodging without an AP, and the Values are out. Any suggestions on the best way to find a good price at one of the Mods?

Our fav mod is POR-Riverside! Love the theming, boat to DTD, family evening entertainment, etc.
To find discounts, Disney does put out promos, just keep watching the WDW web site, and click on the Specials link.
Mousesavers.com has a chart of Historical Discounts so you can see when WDW has put out promos in the past, and for what dates.

Or you can book with a specialized WDW TA, On the web site it should say- Authorized Disney Vacation Planner. These agencies are great. They specialize in Disney travel, and know when WDW puts out promos, and will automatically apply it to your res. They also have very good advice.

Hi! I enjoyed my stay at the Port Orleans French Quarter last fall. It is the sister resort to Port Orleans Riverside. It is a smaller resort and very quaint. The people were great. Plus we had one bus stop and the wait was never long. The people at both resorts were great! We were there for 7 nights and we never felt crowded. The cost was very reasonable too. I would stay there again and again. We've stayed at the value resorts and the experience is very different - crowded and definitely more chaotic. We've also stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort and we didn't like it because it was too sprawling.

I noticed you said you are veterans - probably meaning you visited Disney many times but if you have served in the military, please check out Shades of Green Resort on Walt Disney Resort (for military personnel - current or retirees) as another option. Goggle for their website for current information and what they offer.

Happy Vacation!

Thank you for the suggestions. I have always wanted to try one of the Orleans resorts. That fact that DH's convention is at a resort right across from DD, the boat trip over could work really well! :)
