Hi There,
Not sure who else to ask so I thought someone on here may be able to help. Basically I don't understand Car insurance. I normally rent from National and 100% love their service but for my weeks vacation in August they're charging 2x the normal rate :confused3

This has made me go to other rental agencies but they do not seem to have the same "Peace of Mind" coverage that National does. I've actually been in an accident (fender bender, my fault with another car) in a National car and in Florida no less. They did everything and I was fully covered with no effort on my part. They basically said I could drive into a brick wall for all they cared.

How does this differ from other companies and Credit Card "collision" insurance? Where they say this covers the price of the car only. What could I be liable for in a situation where I only have Collision insurance?

I'm totally at a loss with what to do. Should I pay more for National or is their Peace of Mind coverage comparable to Collision? eeek. Too confusing.

Thanks in advance!

Hi There.....I'm sorry I can't help you with your question, :confused3 but did notice you are venturing to the island in June. If you need any info for that trip I can help! :sunny:

If you have your own insurance policy, depending on the coverage you have rental car coverage can be extended from your policy to a rental.
As for credit card coverage, it usually varies according to the card, it is best to check with the card issuer.
Insurance coverage also varies when it comes to the rental agencies. Be sure to read the fine print to make sure that all coverages are included.
Hope this helps.

If you are renting the vehicle in Florida, I suggest you buy their insurance & not extend it from your own policy. If you have a claim with the rental car, your own policy will be charged with it but if you buy their insurance, the claim stays in Florida, your own policy will not be affected. Also, some rental companies will charge you for "down time" if you have an accident . This will be charged direct to your credit card. This is the charge for when the car is getting fixed & they cannot rent it out. If you buy their insurance you don't have to worry about this. As an insurance broker here in NB, the above is what we recommend to all our customers when they go to Florida. As for credit card insurance, check the fine print. Some only allow the card holder to drive. Hope this helps. Also, watch the limits of Liability in Florida as the basic is quite low.

I suggest still checking with your own insurance company. I didn't even know I had the extended protection on a rental car until I called mine this past week. They told me that I have full coverage with any rental vehicle. It doesn't matter what the damage is, they will cover me. I also asked them what the procedure was -i.e.: do I pay upfront and they reimburse me? They actually told me that they deal directly with the company and I don't worry about anything. I have coverage up to $100,000 damage on any rental vehicle and everything else remains the same.

I have been with this company for 8 years and have always gotten the extra insurance when renting a vehicle. My insurance agent told me that I have been covered for rental insurance since I started using them. I wish I would have known that before!!

Anyways, just my two cents.
