Help with info on DoubleTree Suites

I was just wondering if there was anyone out there who could give me any information on the DoubleTree Suites in the Downtown Disney area. Can you also tell me how far from the parks it actually is and if it is a nice resort. We have 6 in our family and dont know if we can afford to stay at a Disney Hotel next time we go. So hard to find a good deal on a room when you have more than 4 in your family. Thanks for any information.

Our family of 5 stayed there one night this past October. Although the room is not a bad size(separate bedroom that had two double beds and a sofa that opened out into a bed) the room itself wasn't all that great. The bathroom was very cramped, the room was dark, and it wasn't very clean. It was right in downtown Disney, so it was close to all of the parks. I guess we are just spoiled because it lacked the Disney feeling that the Disney resorts have. If you will only be sleeping there I suppose it would be okay, but if you want to enjoy the Disney experience like the pools, charging to your room, and other perks that come along with staying on property you will disappointed. My husband says he will never stay there again, but I would if I were on a strict budget. I would personally try to stay in two All Star rooms, and with a good discount code you might come out about the same. That way you will have more than enough beds, two bathrooms, and all of the Disney perks. Hope this helps.

We stayed there in May 2003 we had the mousesavers rate of 89 a night it was fine the buses stunk we used our car to get to teh parks
the room was clean and had plenty of room there were 3 of 2 adults and a 4 year old
we could easily walk to DTD and it was a nice stroll
the pool was fine and the room service was good we had free pizza it came with the room

We stayed there 2 yrs ago for our first night before GF, and the room is a nice size but we felt room was dark and the air condition was super noisy. It was one of those long units built into the wall. It was super hot that night so no choice but to leave it on. My entire reason for staying offsite my first night after arriving at 6:00 PM was to get a good nights sleep for next day to start vac at GF. This was ruined because I was awake all night from the noise. Also our room came with free breakfast buffet, this was horrible!! Worst I've had.

I'm interested in hearing some more peoples experiences with the Doubletree guest suites as well.

We are going in May and were planning the stay at HIFS but with the renovations going on there I'm worried about the noise level in the afternoons when the kids go for naps. I read on Mousesavers too that it was one of her preferred hotels and was thinking of staying there. I like the idea of a suite because it gives the kids a separate room to nap and dh and I can watch t.v. etc. without disturbing them.

Anyone stayed at the HIFS and the DoubleTree suites before?

We stayed there 4 years ago and really enjoyed it. You mentioned about your kids taking naps, so I thought I'd mention (and you may already know this) that the kid's room in a 2 bedroom does not have a actual door. It's a doorway that opens to the living room. So if your kids will take naps in the master bedroom (which does have a door) or you don't mind watching TV in the master bedroom (I'm pretty sure there was a TV in the master), you shouldn't have a problem.

We stayed at Doubletree Guest Suites last summer for three nights. Had an exceptional deal through Hilton Honors and had to view the HGVC timeshare presentation. The room was dark and a little worn out. Needed paint, deep cleaning of the furniture and carpet. Smelled musty. Breakfast buffet was good (we paid extra for this). We drove our own car to the parks (we are DVC and were doing Sea World for this part of our trip).

I'd also think that two value rooms would be better than one here. If it was all you could afford, it would be okay. But if you can swing the two value rooms, that would be better.

I have considered staying offsite in all suite hotel or some the vacation villas around Orlando. I think you could get a excellent deal for the week.

Check hotelkingdom.com some all suite hotels and villas. I have seen some go as low as 70.00 dollars a night.

We stayed there in Nov. and really liked it. There are 6 of us so we don't easily fit anywhere either It was very close to DTD and we walked there to do some shopping and eating. The room was big with a table and a kitchenette which made doing breakfast in the room easy. We got a mousesavers rate of $99. We didn't use the buses but it was very easy to drive to the parks. I would stay there again. Our first Disney trip we stayed at Dixie Landings. Doubletree had more space. It was a little worn but that didn't really bother us.
