Help with hair??

Just to add....

If you use Coconut oil or an intensive treatment. Put in on your hair cover it with a plastic cap and leave it on for a minimum or 30 minutes. When you rinse it off use cool/tepid water.

I have very fine hair that is prone to breaking, especially after highlighting. I have been using Redken Extreme Anti-snap leave in conditioner along with the Extreme Shampoo and Conditioner for about the past three months. These products have made a huge difference in my hair. The breakage has completely stopped. My hair is longer, shinier, and healthier than it has been in years.

If indeed your hair is over processed you can't fix it. It has to grow out and be cut off. Do not do any other chemical treating until all the bad ends are removed.

You can use good quality products and a few have already been suggested. The main thing for you to do now is to NOT continue to over do it. You mention blow drying and using a curling iron. You should pick one or the other(not both) and keep the heat to a minimum. Depending on your hair type you may be able to use an anti frizz serum. They most often contain silicone which if you have fine hair will weigh it down. If it's medium to thicken you should be fine with using one. Also, space out the number of times you wash your hair. The less you wash it the more of the natural oils will work their way through. The vast majority of people wash way too often. Your hair and scalp will adapt to less washing....give it time.

I very rarely use bleach to highlight anyone's hair. I use high lift blonde colours. Most good quality colours are 80% conditioner so your hair is in better shape after the colour than before. If your colourist doesn't use them or know about them you need a colourist that is up to date.

Thank you.......

Just what I was afraid of, I finally washed my hair after getting it done on Friday. I used Redken Color Extend Magnetics (sulfate free shampoo). Then I put in Aussie 3 minute miracle moisture and left it on at least 5-10 mins in shower. Rinsed it out and my hair felt GREAT! I was able to run my fingers through my hair with ease like cutting through butter. I was excited and then I blow dryed my hair. That is when it all went down hill :( The outer layer of my hair is so frizzy, ( the underneath is still healthy and smooth) the only way to make it look good would be to use a curling iron to smooth it out. I slept on it and the frizz has tamed a little but I definitely need to do some kind of styling to be able to leave the house. I can forego the blow drying next time and let it airdry (I do have natural wave) as long as in the morning I can use a curling iron to fix the straggly pieces? She cut my hair doing a lot of texturizing so is that maybe causing the frazzled ends? Or is it definitely the damage? I am going to just condition it only for the next week or so and try the "Curls rock" stuff I bought from the salon. Are you familiar with that product? Also, I am not very happy with how light my hair is. If she adds a toner to add warmth will that do more damage?

Thank you so much for taking the time to help.

There is very little reason to texturize long hair....unless you have VERY thick hair. Most likely it's the bleach but could be a combo of the two. You NEVER put bleach on bleach and I think you said it was over lapped.

As far as it being too light....stop bleaching! The only reason to use bleach and toner for highlights is because your colourist doesn't know how to do it
any other way. Do not have it toned again....do not do any further chemical processing until your hair is in better condition. That means probably 2 hair cuts....approx 3-4 months. You shouldn't need any highlights for nearly 3 months anyway. That's one of the perks of highlighting, it lasts a lot longer than a base colour.

Curls Rock...is that the one made by TiGi? I know of it but don't use it. TiGi makes good products. Look for an anti-frizz serum that will not be too heavy for your hair. They are fantastic for taming the frizzies.

If you can air dry your hair and then use a curling iron (set at a lower heat) that would be the best way to minimize the added heat from styling. Try to just use only one source of heat....either the blower or the iron but not both.

One last tip. Don't rub your hair with a towel after washing. Try to just pat it to get out the extra moisture. Aggressively rubbing it they way most of us do will just rough up the outer layer of your hair causing more frizz. Your hair is fragile and unhealthy right now be gentle.

Yes it is Tigi Catwalk Curls rock. I also have It's a 10 spray and serum. I did put some of the serum in my frizzy parts and used my curling iron on the lowest setting. I had to or else I can't leave the house. lol My hair actually looks great right now. I will definitely not blowdry it next time. I am so upset about my hair stylist. Now I feel like I should find someone knew and that is not easy.

One more thing.....I do have LOTS of hair. Takes her 3 hours to full foil it because I have so much. Maybe she is sick of doing my hair and trying to get rid of me. :scratchin

A great way to find someone new is to look at other peoples hair....in the grocery store, at the Mall...where ever you are and when you see hair that you really like stop that person and ask who does it.

Good luck :thumbsup2

3 HOURS....holy cow. I have a several clients with a ton of hair and more but 3 hours is totally insane. It takes 3 hours to put them in only or 3 hours including the process time? Bleach being in your hair for 3 hours is bad news.

No, about 1.5 hours to put them in. By the time I am done and walking out of there it is 3-3.5 hours. This time she left the foils in my hair for a while and even put me under a heat lamp. Said she wanted to see how light she could get me so she didn't have to use toner. She also told me she added my ends into the foils because she was going to be cutting a lot of it anyway (she cut 4 inches off). I am shocked because she has been doing my hair a long time and has been a master stylist for over 18 years. I ended up using my curling iron on the outer layer on the lowest heat setting this morning. I had to, couldnt go out in public looking like that. I also put some "It's a 10 serum" in and that helped a little. It also doesn't help that today is so humid out. :headache:

3 hours start to finish is not out of line. The foil application alone would be 45-60 minutes but an extra half hour for very thick hair is still within reasonable. Processing time with bleach and a heat source would be 30 minutes at the absolute limit....more like 15-20 min though. The heat makes it work faster...doesn't make it lighter. High lift colour highlights do require heat to boost the lift.

Putting the ends into the foil is fine as long as they are covered with foil...NOT bleach. Regardless of how much you are cutting off after you never double bleach hair.

Master stylist....that's a new one. I've never heard that term before. A senior stylist could be called an Artistic Director but that still only means they've been at it for a few years. It doesn't mean they are good.

She painted the stuff on the ends too then closed up the foil. She alternated with color (low lights) and a pale blue creamy stuff (bleach?) At the salon where I go you are ranked by experience. Designer, Senior and Master. You pay more for a Master stylist. She has been working there over 15 years because I have gone to her in the past too.

This is how mine have always been done as well. The pale blue stuff is the developer and bleach mixed together. As I mentioned upthread, I've been highlighting my hair for the better part of 20'ish years. I have been to many different stylist over the years and now, I actually do my own highlights. Even when I paid very high prices and went to very well-recommended stylists, they did my highlights the way you described. Sometimes the stylist has used heat but not always. It takes longer with no heat but results are the same either way. I don't see a problem with how she did your hair but I am no expert. Just seems like the norm to me :goodvibes

I will say the time seems like a lot but my highlights used to easily take 2 hours in a salon (that is with no cut) and I do not have thick hair.

Mine takes this long to foil and cut. I don't think it is uncommon.

As for it being too blonde, mine always does exactly what your stylist said, the white will become more yellow over time. Someone upthread said there was no reason to ever use bleach, and I agree with that IF your hair is prone to damage. There is no way my mom would ever put it on her hair because she would have a frizzy breaking mess. It is appropriate for my thick but fine hair that tends to be oily however. It strips some of the oil and gives my hair a lot more body. I would talk to your stylist about the possibility that it is time to try a new product for highlights.

I also have "thick but fine hair". Glad to hear it will fix itself. :thumbsup2

3 hours?! No. Way. I would go nuts.
My hair is medium length-past my shoulders-fine, but I have lots, and pretty straight. I have foils, roots, cut & blow dry-1 1/2 hours.
When mine gets dried out/over processed I glob on the conditioner. I'll put a bunch on my dry hair before I wet it to wash. Wash as usual. Do you use a heat protect product? You know - you spray it on before you blow dry or iron?

Had my hair hi lighted today and bleach was used. She alternated bleach with low light color and then used a toner. My hair is so damaged from the bleach (breaking off after washed) and I think my hair is too light. How can I darken the hi lights without damaging it further? Any advice on how to make my hair healthier? No more bleaching for me!

I would suggest a product called deva curl. It is the best for curly hair. Try the no poo for colored hair. It will not later and will take some getting used to. Also, try not to wash it each time. Just give it a good rinse with warm water and use cond. Try to rinse with cool water to close the cuticle. If you use an iron or blow dryer, make sure you are using a heat protectant product.

You can certainly have it toned. Deposit color will actually help it look and feel better. You should be able to have it toned with a semi perm developer. It should only take maybe 5-10 minutes to tone it as your hair I going to be very porous. The salon should offer you a deep condition for free to help.

I need help too. My DD's hair is really really thick but fine and dry so it always looks a mess. Her hair is brunette. I always see people with beautiful controlled shunt hair. I buy good biolage shampoo and conditioning balm but it doesn't help. I have tried the shine products but it just makes it look greasy Any suggestions.

I have this hair texture, as well. I always blow dry it completely, and flat iron it with a really good flat iron (I have a Paul Mitchell, chi is good, too). I also put a smoothing serum through the ends while wet and then again after it's flat ironed. That's the only way I can tame mine!

I know......I am probably the only woman in the world who loathes getting my hair done. Way too long. Probably because I get such a heavy hi light. She takes such small sections of hair in each foil. I do NOT use a heat protectant spray before blow drying. Can you recommend a good one? Last night I showered but only conditioned my hair and then let it air dry over night. Doesn't feel too bad today but I definitely need to curl it a little to make it look presentable. I would prefer to blow dry then curl it.

Also.....

I am going to the beach soon and my hair will most likely get wet from the salt water (going to Mexico). Can anyone recommend something to keep it from getting dryed out from the salt? Should I spray something on it after getting out of the water? I never go under water in a pool.
