Had my hair hi lighted today and bleach was used. She alternated bleach with low light color and then used a toner. My hair is so damaged from the bleach (breaking off after washed) and I think my hair is too light. How can I darken the hi lights without damaging it further? Any advice on how to make my hair healthier? No more bleaching for me!

I highlight my hair with bleach and have for the majority of the last 20 years. If you are unhappy with the color, your best bet is to call the stylist and have her weave some dark low-lights through.

As far as how to help your damaged hair, I like to use coconut oil on my hair after I high-light. I put so much in that it looks really greasy but it works wonders :goodvibes

What kind of shampoo/conditioner do you use? Try using something that is sulfate free. L'Oreal Ever Pure is pretty good and not that expensive.

You can have them put a toner on your highlights, they can make the blonde darker with that. As for your hair being damaged, I would just get a really good conditioner and leave it on your hair for at least 5 minutes when you wash your hair. I usually leave mine on for my entire shower. Biosilk Silk Therapy conditioner worked really well when I had my hair platinum blonde.

Thank you!! I was thinking about putting some coconut oil in and wrapping my head in a towel for a while then washing out. I was using Trader Joe's tea tree shampoo/conditioner but my hairdresser said its too drying. Today I bought some Garnier Fructis for dry, damaged hair. Hope that helps. I cannot imagine how much of a frizz mess my hair is going to be now. I cannot blowdry it smooth like she does. She did cut a lot of hair today probably cutting some of the damaged end parts out. It's still the top layer that is so dry and frizzy.

You can also try macadamia naturals healing oil. My hairdresser did the same thing to me and my hair was fried after she fixed the "too much bleach" look. I put it on at night and wash it out in the morning and works great. You have to get the one in the pump, not the spray on because the spray has alcohol in it.

I actually sleep with the coconut oil in my hair on the night that I highlight. I just lay a towel over my pillow. Otherwise wrapping in a towel and letting it sit for a few hours will definitely help too.

I have my hair bleached I use very expensive shampoo. Color proof crazy smooth shampoo and color proof Deep Quench moisture masque it makes my hair frizz free. I have blonde extensions the shampoo is sulfate free products my hair is very good condition price well worth price .I also use Purple shampoo as blonde hair goes brassy I use it once a week it helps.

Costco's Kirkland Brand Shampoo is sulfate free ad is awesome on my very dry color treated hair!
The price is excellent!

I need help too. My DD's hair is really really thick but fine and dry so it always looks a mess. Her hair is brunette. I always see people with beautiful controlled shunt hair. I buy good biolage shampoo and conditioning balm but it doesn't help. I have tried the shine products but it just makes it look greasy

Any suggestions.

You really can't do much if your hair is actually breaking off. Hair is not "alive" and once it's damaged, it's damaged. All conditioning, etc does is coat the hair, it doesn't repair it. It will have to grow out. But, I would contact the salon, as it sounds like your hairdresser overprocessed you and you should at least get a "fix" or a refund. Dry hair is one thing, but hair that is breaking is something else entirely.

I colored/bleached my hair for years and had more then a few mishaps. To help your hair feel better, I recommend Aussie 3 minute miracle conditioner and I use the blue Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner just on the ends. It doesn't repair it per say, but helps it feel and look better. As for darkening, I would contact the salon..

I really love my hair but I think the blonde is too "white" in some places. I wanted it to be more warm. I spoke with my stylist and she said the toner will fade and the white will get more yellow. I sure hope it does. If not she said she would add some warmth. Still looks pretty good for breaking so much. I am just scared to see what its like once I wash it and blowdry it myself. :worried:

I think what happened is that she also added bleach to my already bleached ends knowing she was going to be cutting them off. I ended up getting 4 inches cut off which we planned before she started hi lights. Usually she will only do the growth and leave the ends out.

It will fade some. I think the color is beautiful and it doesn't look nearly as damaged as I was thinking. A good conditioner (I like the 3-min miracle too) and some coconut oil should really help any dryness you have.

Your hair doesn't look damaged. I think it looks nice. A good conditioner that absorbs well (coconut oil is a great suggestion) helps a lot. A conditioner with Moroccan oil would be good too. You can get a Suave version that is very good at Wal-Mart. I don't think you need to spend a fortune.

Burt's Bees has a shampoo that is sulfate free. It's 7 bucks and change. I have been using the one for volume. I like it. :)

Thank you!!! I bought some Redken Color Extend Magnetics sulfate free shampoo for now (got it 40% off). I also bough the Aussie 3 min miracle moist to try. I will see how that goes and maybe add some coconut oil one night. It may not look damaged in the photo because she put product in it and smoothed it with the straightener. Believe me it is going to be one big frizz ball once I wash and blowdry it. I will be forced to use a curling iron to smooth out the frizz.

If indeed your hair is over processed you can't fix it. It has to grow out and be cut off. Do not do any other chemical treating until all the bad ends are removed.

You can use good quality products and a few have already been suggested. The main thing for you to do now is to NOT continue to over do it. You mention blow drying and using a curling iron. You should pick one or the other(not both) and keep the heat to a minimum. Depending on your hair type you may be able to use an anti frizz serum. They most often contain silicone which if you have fine hair will weigh it down. If it's medium to thicken you should be fine with using one. Also, space out the number of times you wash your hair. The less you wash it the more of the natural oils will work their way through. The vast majority of people wash way too often. Your hair and scalp will adapt to less washing....give it time.

I very rarely use bleach to highlight anyone's hair. I use high lift blonde colours. Most good quality colours are 80% conditioner so your hair is in better shape after the colour than before. If your colourist doesn't use them or know about them you need a colourist that is up to date.
