Our soon to be 7 year old has been having a very hard time deciding just what she might like to ask for for this years birthday. She has finally decided that what she most wants are a pair of Heely's.

I'm lost-know nothing about them.

So I tried to look online- but I am just not sure about sizes or where to buy from!!

HELP!!! She wear a size youth 2 in shoes (she turning 7 but she is big- wears a size 10 in clothes). But everything I found kept steering me to womens sizes.

Any suggestions/help will be very greatly appreciated!! We do not have many shopping options around here so I am thinking I'll have to order online. Whats the going price for these things also- I've seen as much as a $40 difference for what looks like the same shoe!

Thanks!
Missy

My kids both got a pair at Modell's I think. Now almost every store and outdoor place has banned then due to the danger. I wouldn't bother buying them, since I don't know of one public place you can wear them.

These shoes are not safe. Most people think that because their kids aren't going fast, the chance of injury is slim. However, most people never come to the realization that these shoes take the feet out of alignment causing damage to the bones, tissues and ligaments. :scared1: I would really reconsider buying such a product.

Thei sizing runs a little smal soI have always gotten 1 size bigger than they wear now in sneakers, the last imt e I bought them was last Christmas so I would assume they still run the same. I had gotten them at Modell's but I think Dicks carries them online as well.

Maybe I'm just mean and hateful, but I hate these things. There are always kids with them skating down the aisles in the store and through the mall, and the parents don't seem to care that the children are rude, inconsiderate, and putting people in danger. I'm not saying that the OP would be that way! And I'm sure that there are kids with these shoes that don't use them in stores and malls. They're aren't being rude, so who knows if they have these shoes/skates or not.

If someone is wearing these, they shouldn't be using them in stores or malls at all. That would be equivalent to skateboarding down the store aisles.

Famous Footwear carries them, so maybe she could go in there just to try them on and you can figure out what size she needs. We always order 1 size up from their tennis shoe sizes.

Inigo, I agree. The Heelys website offers a bit of advice on protective gear (never seen any kids wearing a helmet in the store before) as well as information on public buildings, etc.

FROM THE WEBSITE!
Should protective gear be worn with Heelys?
Yes. While protective gear is not required, we highly recommend its use when the wheels are in the shoes. The helmet and protective pads retail for $19.99 (tax not included) each at select retailers.

Common Courtesy
Crowded public areas are not good places for heeling.
Do not cause inconvenience to others by running into them or cutting them off.
Do not endanger others’ safety or your own.
Follow the rules in public places – if there is no heeling allowed, make sure to take out your wheels.
Respect others’ rights to enjoy public places just as you do.

Now, if the parents of these kids actually enforced the rules, the rest of us would be a lot safer!

I've seen lots of kids fall, run into people, store displays etc, there have been a few kids at school where I work come in with broken arms after having "lost control" of their heeleys. I've seen kids take some pretty good diggers after trying to "heel" and then realizing they didn't have the things on no just regular sneakers this time. They wear the heeleys so often and glide around so much that they forget they actually have to walk when wearing regular sneakers. It is a parental choice obviously whether a child can wear heeleys my advice it to set some strict ground rules for wearing and using them should you decide to get them for your daughter.

So I tried to look online- but I am just not sure about sizes or where to buy from!!
I'd suggest that you have her try them on at the store before you order online. My daughter's Heeleys DID NOT run true to size at all -- I can't remember if the size was way up or way down, but it wasn't her normal size at all.

FYI: I don't know about where your daughter goes to school, but they are banned in our school. If a child wears them to school, the janitor takes out the wheels. I'd hate you to buy something that she can't wear very often.

As a personal note, I hate them. Kids who wear them "skate" in front of you with no regard to their or your safety, race through grocery stores, parking lots, whatever. So rude. Never mind all the broken bones kids get from them. Anyway....good luck!

Thank goodness Heely's are OUT in this area. Now Heely's are in the clearance rack and no one is buying them.

My DD just got heelys for her birthday. She just turned 8 and wears a size 2 - 2 1/2. She also wears a 10 in clothes. I had her go in with me to buy them and I got her a size 5. They were a bit big, but not too much. Her feet grow SOOO fast. The 3 1/2 were too small.

As a parent - a parent who EXPECTS my kids to behave in stores and be considerate, I do allow my kids to wear them to Walmart, etc. BUT they have to stay by me at ALL times. No ripping through the aisles. I also do not appreciate when other kids do that. If NO ONE is in the aisle, (we sometimes go late at night) I do let them go 1/2 way down the aisle, but not fast, but at a quicker speed then staying with me.

I purchased my Heeleys from MC Sports. Good luck!

We just bought my daughter Heely's yesterday at Finish Line and they were 1/2 off. I would normally spend around 30.00 on sneakers for school and she has wanted these since they first came out. One thing to remember is these are still regular shoes and the wheels come out very easily. Kids don't have to wear them with the wheels every day but can wear them as regular sneakers to school. They look the same with no wheels. We bought her 1 size up and she will have plenty of room this year to grow. Good luck.

I just purchased a pair of like new girls black/with hot pink laces and trim at the world's longest yardsale this weekend. I just purchased them because I couldn't pass up the deal. I will be listing these on Ebay soon at a great Buy It Now Price of $12.00 plus shipping which will cost $9.00 because the shoes are a little heavy. These are a size 3. I looked online and saw where that they run one size small, so these might work for you. The lady I purchased them from said they had only been worn once or twice and they look like it. Let me know if you are interested and I could get them listed sooner. School starts tomorrow so it might be Tuesday before I got them listed.

I, too, would carefully consider buying these. I have almost gotten knocked down more times than I care to think about cause of them. Also, they are not allowed in school, yet some still wear them. One little boy got the wheels stuck halfway out and poor thing couldn't even walk! He called his mom and thank goodness she lived close and brought him regular sneakers. I am glad this fad is going away...I heard the pediatricians see more accidents (when they were really popular) with them than with anything else. Sorry, OP, I know this isn't what you asked about...just thought I'd give my two cents...lol

Keep in mind that these are not regular sneakers. While I will not let my kids have them, if you chose to get them I would not suggest that you let your child wear them like they would their regular sneakers. (everyday, gym class etc.) They put your feet in an unnatural position and that is not good for anyone let alone children who are growing.

I bought my boys 2 sizes bigger than their current shoe size.

I did this, since I ran they were a bit on the small side. The boys were thick socks with them, and have no problem.

My kids don't wear them in public though. We have concrete and brick floors. They fly all over the house.

OP, be forewarned, there is a learning curve. My 6 year old never learned how, it was just too frustrating. My 9 year old practices everything.. so, he figured it out in a day. The 11 year old only did it because his *little* brother figured it out, it took him a couple days. But, these days of learning, were frustrating. So, if you child doesn't like to practice, practice practice... be forewarned. :)

Hopefully the 6 year old will try again soon. He did wear them (without wheels) to an amusement park yesterday though, because it added an inch to his height, and he was then big enough for the roller coasters. So, I guess it wasn't a complete waste of money.

Last year one of my DD's figure skating friends broke her arm after a bad fall when wearing her Heely's. Funny she can skate on the ice on a thin metal blade without injuries, yet breaks her arm off the ice in her Heelys!

Having said that though, both of my kids wore Heelys for 3 or 4 years. They had them well before they became popular, but have since tired of them. DS was 5 or 6 when he got his first pair and after a couple of days was heeling all over the place. That was before they were banned at every store in carnation. Don't let your DD heel outside in them. There are too many little pebbles and cracks in the pavement that will send her flying and maybe lose a tooth or break an arm!

I saw a table of them on clearance at Big 5 yesterday. Maybe they are on their way out. Years ago the stores couldn't keep them in stock because they'd be sold right after arriving on the floor.

I 100% agree with this.

My daughter was knocked down but someone wearing them - kid couldn't have been more then 9 or 10 and apparently was brought up in a barn because he didn't even apologize until my bro (who happened to be a few feet in front of us) blocked his path and said "you forgot something" and when the "little darling" snorted "what" bro glared down at him and said you forgot to apologize to my niece.

bro is in the army - 10 bucks said the kid peed his pants when he turned the corner.

I've seen parents totally ignore their kid "skating" around people and making walkers get out of their way. i can't say they are banned up here cause i still see them once and a while in the malls but not as much as i used to.

never mind the fact that they are a danger to everyone else they aren't healthy for the kids who wear them. have you seen how they walk in them. worse then wearing high heals (and i'm soooooo glad I don't wear them anymore.)

i really hope they loose their popularity before i have to refuse to buy my dd them.
