I am a long time lurker, first time poster! I love reading everything you all have to say. I tent camped at fort wilderness with my family when we were really little, and now my husband and I are going for our fourth time. But this time we get to stay 8 nights! It's our first trip longer than a long weekend, and we need help with other things we can cook on the grill, other than hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated! :)

The obvious of course are steaks and chicken. I have also grilled corn, eggplant, onions, portobello mushrooms. Peaches and pineapples are particularly good. One of my favorites is barbecue cabbage. Its all good.

Foil type dinners come to mind where you put your meat (hamburger, chicken, etc.) along with the veggies in some heavy duty foil and cook the whole thing in the coals.

We always bring our crockpot too, and put stuff in there that can cook all day. Then, when we come back from the parks, our dinner is already done!

And, we bring our 3-burner propane stove, so we can make breakfasts in the frying pan - eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, etc. And, don't forget the electric coffee maker!

Just because we're camping, doesn't mean we have to "rough it"!! LOL :cutie:

We like to grill pork tenderloin. Marinate it in a ziploc bag all day, then grill it.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I love "foil dinners" so those are definitly in...as for a crock pot, since we are tent camping, do you just leave it out on the picnic table? Does anything/anyone ever get in it?

I might stop by and check on it for proper seasonings and adjust accordingly , but other than that - you should be okay. You didn't say whether or not you would have a dining canopy/screen room. If not, just set the crock-pot on the seat part of the table - out of sight. I wouldn't leave it exposed to the weather if rain of 20% or more is predicted. In Fla, 20% means....it could rain at the Fort, but nowhere else on Disney property.

If you like the pot roast that Cracker Barrel sells, this one comes very close: Before our trip I wash and pre-cut potatoes and carrots. Then the morning of dinner, you place the carrots/potatoes in the bottom of the crock pot, then mix 1 can of cream of mushroom soup and 1 packet of (dry) onion soup mix. (some people will then add 1 additional can of water but I don't because I feel it gets a bit too watery). Mix this all together..then add the chuck roast on top of all this goop (try and cover the meat also). Pop the cover on and by dinner time you will have a delicious dinner! :cool1:

We are tent camping too. We have a screen tent that we set up over the picnic table area, and it becomes our "kitchen". We set up another little table to the side, and put our small refrigerator on there, as well as a hot plate, coffee maker, electric frying pan, and crockpot. We just leave the crockpot on there all day, and we've never had a problem. Been doing this for 22 years!! :)

Thanks everyone. We have never thought of bringing a crock pot before! We have a tent that goes over our picnic table, for shade, but no screened in area...Maybe if I put the crock pot out with a couple of beers next to it, someone will come make my meal for me, and take the beers as payment! ;)

You guys are amazing! Never did I think I would get this much help! I will have to post more often! Thanks so much everyone! Maybe I will meet some of you when we are there from June 26th to July 4th...

We love to use our crockpot. I would suggest you bring the crockpot/slowcooker liners for easy clean up. I'm not sure who makes them, but you can find them where the foil & plastic wrap is.

You should also have something that you can put a regular pot on like an electric hot plate or a propane stove. Just because you are camping, it doesn't mean that all your food should be cooked over a fire.

We make every thing camping that we would make at home. Certain things like mashed potatoes are easy if you use instant. We pre-make taco filling and put it in a seal a meal bag and freeze it. We also have precooked bacon and sausage patties for breakfast with fried eggs on bagels toasted on a toaster that goes on the stove.

We also have a Coleman oven and bake biscuits(from scratch no tubes) and cinnamon rolls(ok these come from a tube) for breakfast.

Just think about how hard something is to cook and to clean up. Pancakes sound great until you have to clean the bowl you mixed them in.

everyone seems to have already mentioned a crockpot (we do this often too) another thing that is super quick and easy are sloppy joes. burner, skillet, 1lb of ground beef, can of manwich, and buns.. good to go! i always bring a caesar salad in a bag kit for a side. a friend once suggested to premake dinners at home freeze them and then bring them up and reheat all day in a crockpot (like lasagna) haven't tried it yet, but it's a good idea!

I agree that a crockpot is the easiest to cook in. We will be there for 8 days the end of June and are looking forward to having a cooked meal to come back to when we take a break in the middle of the day.

....Don't forget the crock pot liners. They work wonders and make clean up a cinch!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the info everyone! I have been absent from the thread for awhile, but am back now. We just bought/moved into our first house! :) Found the crock pot, and getting ready to arrive at the fort on the 26th of June. Where do you get crock pot liners? Grocery Store?

Congrats on the move!!!! I buy my liners at Wal-mart - they are in the paper plate aisle at my local store. Reynolds makes them
