Help with first night dinner

Good morning everyone.

We are arriving on September 19th. I did the 90 days out for dining reservations but did not have much luck with my choices. I have tried on line and keep calling for cancellations.

I would like to do a character meal our first night and go to the Magic Kingdom. We don't have the park hoppers and my family (DH and DS4) are not fancy food eaters.

I tried Mickeys BackYard BBQ but no luck.

I made reservations at Crystal Palace for dinner but I am not hearing good things about the food. Any other suggestions for a character dinner with basic food?

Crystal Palace for dinner is great!!! Stick with it! Actually, it is my favorite MK restaurant. My fabulous cousin is taking me to WDW in October and he doesn't want to do any character meals so this will be the 1st time ever that I haven't gone to Crystal Palace - I am bummed about it! Seriously, the Crystal Palace is absolutely beautiful, the characters are great, and the food is yummy! You will have a great time!

You will really enjoy Crystal Palace -

as you walk around the park and see that pretty building, you'll think, hey, that's where we're eating!!

The food is buffet - but I really enjoyed the selections!! I will confess I'm more of a Mickey Minnie girl than Pooh and Piglet, so I go to CP for the convenience of the buffet - I prefer it over the food at Liberty Tree or Tony's!!

as a matter of fact I even prefer the food and location of CP over Chef Mickey's! (I confess I got skeeved out our last trip to CM the kids putting their hands IN THE FOOD - of course that could happen anywhere, but it happened at CM so I prefer CP - maybe that's wrong of me!!

just think of it this way no matter what - you can find good and bad reviews for anywhere!!

I agree with the OP. Keep CP. Good food & fun and in the MK.

Crystal Palace is perfect for your first night, as it puts you right in the Magic Kingdom. The restaurant is lovely and will set the tone for trip. We love seeing Pooh, Tigger, Piglet & Eeeyore too!
